1 starNever use AVIS! EVER! I used them for over a decade exclusively, but have continued to see small issues the last several years. More recently, I got charged on accident for a two day rental, $4,000. The rental was supposed to cost $200. They somehow didn't process the person that had the car before me, I called on Nov 4th and they said that I would get reimbursed the $4,000. I have called now 10 times and escalated calls to managers several times. It's now Dec 13th, nearly a month and a half since I first called and they have not reimbursed. They just keep telling me it's getting reviewed for final approval, but say you will get refunded. We have now had to make a credit card payment on that amount and they still have not refunded us the $4,000. Will never use them again.Avis Rent A Car

1 starI took a rental vehicle from AVIS at DFW.
At the terminal, I used my card for a $250 hold and an insurance charge of $155.97 ($51.99 per day as indicated by the counter staff).
Although I had reserved a Ford Mustang convertible, it was unavailable, so they provided a mid-range SUV as an alternative, which I accepted. The fuel tank was full when I received the vehicle, and I ensured it was returned in the same condition.
As per the agreement, I am eligible for a full refund of the $250 hold unless the car was not returned with a full tank of gas, which I complied with.
The customer service representative mentioned that I returned the car at 6 PM, but I actually brought it back before 3 PM as I had scheduled a Lyft ride from the rental drop-off spot to Plano at 3 PM. The car was returned with a full tank, and there were no incidents despite having full coverage.
However, the total bill presented is $568.61, whereas it should only amount to $327.10 ($171.13 plus $155.97) of which $171.13 was prepaid using credit card and $155.97 should have been charged on debit card. The $250 hold had to be refunded to me.
They didn’t refund the hold and claimed that I signed the agreement at the terminal for all those charges.

We have checked our records and show that a total hold of $406 was captured for your rental. At the time of return the final charges came to $568.61 of which $171.13 was prepaid bringing the balance owed to $397.48. To which the hold of $406 was applied to this balance and unused part was released. We have since issued the following credits $86.97 on December 5th, 2023, and $178.83 on December 13th, 2023, bringing to the total charges billed to $302.81 which includes your prepayment. Please note if your credit/debit card statement is reflecting something different we would encourage you to provide your statement for our additional review.

1 starHorrible company, stay away!!!
Dirty cars and be prepared to pay way more than you expect. They added charges even after we declined.
Charged us for fuel, even when we showed them the receipt and returned it with a full tank. Charged us for tolls after we declined and for insurance after we declined. All up charges added up to over $290 for 4 days, on top of my original payment.
I have contacted corporate for reimbursement and added a dispute on my CC.

1 starI rented a Chrysler Pacifica from them. Upon arriving the hatchback had been severely damaged. As there wasn’t any other vans available and the hatch did work we still rented it. We took 2 pictures of the damage. We also had the person checking our license when you leave the facilty note it on the rental agreement. We returned the vehicle a week later as per agreement. One week later we received a bill for $3100 damage to the vehicle. I called and explained to the number on the bill. They wouldn’t check with the garage attendants notes to verify our story. They said send pictures and they would investigate. They were trying to bill us for something that was done previously. Avis probably billed the people that actually did the damage. 1 starAvis in Maui charged me $450 for "excessive interior dirt - sand". There was no sand or dirt inside the car at all. We did drive through mud (should not be a surprise in Maui) and there were some splashes on the exterior, but this was something we could have taken to the car wash for under $20.
I interacted with several agents via email and asked them to provide me with information on the charges. They eventually sent me a PDF with a photos of the exterior and the dashboard (?), nothing to do with interior dirt or sand. After pointing that out, this was their response: "Apologies, indeed the pics are only from outside dirt and based on this ill do a refund of 85% ($390), please allow 3-5 days for processing."
I found several posts online and on reddit that others have also had similar charges for no reason. I actually frequently rent from Avis when I travel and never had issues, so this is very disappointing. I'm shocked after seeing some of the reviews here. We have reviewed the pictures provided by the rental counter and the cleaning fee is due to dirt/mud on the outside of the vehicle from taking the vehicle off paved roads. Please note that per the Avis Rental terms and conditions it is a violation of the rental agreement to take the vehicle onto unpaved roads. Based on this we do find the cleaning fee to be valid and show that a discount of $390.00 has already been issued to the account on file.

1 starTHIS IS FOR THE BAYONNE LOCATION Avis/ Budget *** ****** ****** BAYONNE N.J. BUT THERE WASNT AN OPTION FOR THEM HERE.
For my Uber drivers, if you rent from Avis to drive Uber, in Essex Co NJ you will likely go through Bayonne, or Newark. I cannot comment on Newark, I only have experience with Bayonne. So I will leave my experience, so you can beware! I have been renting through the Uber program for 1 yr with this location, so I don't come from a place where I had a rental or 2. I maintained an uber rental for 1 yr. different cars. In Oct, I got into 2 accidents in 5 days. Neither my fault, I was parked in 1, the other was a hit and run. The manager Sheila, began retaliating against me to the point that, she removed me from the platform 3 weeks in a row, without first running my card on file. (my Uber drivers know what this means) It's fraud, and its this $%^&/ trying to play GOD. Hertz is the better choice. At least I heard, they reimburse you back the whole amount on the receipt, when you need to get an oil change. The manager Sheila, is only giving back $35 the cars take synthetic, which is $100. So imagine how many times me, and the other Uber drivers bit the bullet. Do you think they want their money back too? Stay away from, again not Parsippany it's "Bayonne" I'm giving my review about. I don't know about regular rentals, I am giving my review as an uber driver, for other Uber drivers. Go to Hertz. And if you don't, you will be on here talking about the manager also!Avis Rent A Car

Uber drivers taking advantage of our rates must meet certain requirements to qualify before and during their rental contract period. If payment authorization attempts are declined, they are considered to be in violation of their rental agreement and will be asked to return the vehicle or will be subject to late penalties. While we understand that you do not agree with this policy, we do require that all payments are secured when they are scheduled and will restrict further use if this is not fulfilled.
Regarding any road expenses, please reach out to us with any receipts or proofs of purchases made to maintain the vehicle so that we can review for any additional reimbursement options.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

1 starWe had prepaid a 5 day rental, returned the car one day early with a receipt showing the charge was $63 lower than originally quoted. When we inquired when the refund would be posted they advised that because it was prepaid there would be no refund. Shocking that providing Avis with financial assurance ahead of using their vehicle by prepaying eliminated the possibility of adjusting the charge to the actual cost.Avis Rent A Car

Upon the end of the rental, typically within 72 hours of check-in, Avis will automatically release any unbilled hold amount back to your account. Depending upon the policies of your financial institution, they may take additional time to make the funds once again available for your use.
Unless a rental's charges meet or exceed the value of the hold, Avis doesn't actually receive the total amount of the funds in the hold. As a result, most banks and card providers do not show the return of the unused hold amount as a credit; it will simply be returned to your available balance.
If no pending authorization holds remain, this typically indicates that the unused amount was already allocated back to your balance by your card provider.
If you have a record of any unexpected completed transactions or your card provider still has the hold amount showing as a pending transaction, at your convenience, please reach out to us with screenshots of the transaction dates, amounts and transaction details for further review.

The car was nasty inside and out. I paid for 2 days but only used it one and was advised that no refund would be given. I have since seen additional charges for tolls which were all paid in cash.
When I returned the car at the Chattanooga airport the gentleman working was beyond rude.
