1 starDo not use AVIS for rentals! I wish I could leave zero review. They don't deserve the one star. I rented a vehicle while in another state where my card was swiped twice placing duplicate holds. I have contacted Avis multiple times only to be told I had to wait 14 days for the hold to be released. I provided the screenshot they requested showing the back to back transactions. It should be an easy fix to just release one of the holds but they feel 14 days is needed to correct a mistake by one of their agents.
I contacted the credit card; however, I'm unable to dispute a "pending" transaction. I will be contacting corporate next.Avis Rent A Car

Upon the end of the rental, typically within 72 hours of check-in, Avis will automatically release any unbilled hold amount back to your account. Depending upon the policies of your financial institution, they may take additional time to make the funds once again available for your use. Many financial institutes will return your funds within 1–5 days after the transaction date. However, some holds may last as long as 30 days, depending on the issuing bank.
Unless a rental's charges meet or exceed the value of the hold, Avis doesn't receive the total amount of the funds in the hold. As a result, most banks and card providers do not show the return of the unused hold amount as a credit; any unbilled amount will simply be returned to your available balance.
If no pending authorization holds remain, this typically indicates that the unused amount was already allocated back to your balance by your card provider. If you have a record of any unexpected completed or pending transactions, at your convenience, please provide screenshots of the transaction dates, amounts and transaction details for further review.
Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

1 star5. Awful Experience overall. What was originally supposed to cost about $170 turned into a nightmare that ultimately cost me $2,927.38. I had to return a rental car to AVIS at LAX on August 27th. Couldn't find the rental car return. It was the early flight, still dark outside, construction and detours at LAX, cell services was not able to use GPS. Eventually parked in a parking garage at Terminal and sent pics of the cars location to customer service once I was inside and through security. Customer Service at AVIS is absolutely terrible not domestic. AVIS had the keys to the car for 18 days before they picked it up. AVIS customer service wasn't able to get ahold of anyone at the rental return at LAX during those 18 days. During this 18 day period I opened multiple Case ID numbers (have all documents and phone records) and called 22 times spending almost 5hrs on the phone. At one point I offered to fly back out to L.A., find the car and return it, The Customer Service Rep I was speaking to told me not to do that(all calls are recorded). I have phone call records, Emails, USPS documentation and rental agreements.
In summary, I did everything I could to resolve this matter in a timely manner and was taken advantage of and have been charged dearly. AVIS Car Rental is a predatory business that has business practices that should be illegal!Avis Rent A Car

1 starI used to be a regular customer at avis, but after this last experience, I will never recommend, nor ever consider using Avis again. If it was possible to give 0/5 stars, I wouldn’t think twice about it!
I was going to book a car for the weekend. About 2 hours after booking, I decided to cancel my reservation (my plans changed to where I no longer needed the rental). It was not made clear, until after I submitted my cancellation that I would be charged $150 for canceling. My car only cost $134! I called the location that I was initially going to rent from, and explained my situation pertaining to being charged more than what the car even was. The person working wasn’t able to help me much, so she gave me the 1-800 number for Avis.
I spoke with some, who was not helpful at all! She explained to me that the reason that I gave for the cancellation was not good enough for a refund, even though I canceled about 2 hours after making the reservation. I requested to speak to a manager or supervisor. I was told that at that point, I would not be able to speak to anyone else, and that a supervisor would get back to me in 24-48 hours. At this point, it has been over 72 hours, and I have not received a call or email.
This experience has been EXTREMELY frustrating and disappointing, especially considering I was not provided with a service at all, but rather an asinine $150 “cancellation fee”. Avis’s customer service was no help at all! It’s so crazy how they can just take your money like that!!!Avis Rent A Car

As clarified in our Prepay Policies on our website during booking, if a rental is canceled more than 24 hours from the reserved pick up time, a cancellation fee of $50.00 is applied. If a rental is canceled less than 24 hours or after the reserved pick up time, a cancellation fee of $150.00 is applied. We understand that you may have overlooked this policy and our Customer Service team issued a one-time refund of the cancellation fee for your prepayment.

1 starI will NEVER rent from Avis again. On an international trip to Italy, their Milan Airport location charged me 750 USD more than the agreed upon price. They would not provide me with a receipt due to “technical errors”. When I called to dispute, the customer representative said there was corruption and “nothing she could do about it”. She also admitted that the fees and total cost were not lining up with standard line item charges and I was correct in my concern. I received a follow up letter refusing my dispute without providing any evidence, receipt of charges or explanation aside from saying I signed a paper to agree. Mind you, this paper was in Italian with our verbally agreed upon terms and was NEVER sent to me for review. I couldn’t get a car if I didn’t sign, so what else is one expected to do in that situation? DO NOT RENT FROM THIS CROOKED COMPANY! They turn a blind eye to corruption and do NOT look out for their customers. They’ve lost me, my family and anyone I can influence as a customer.Avis Rent A Car

1 starI don’t understand how Avis keeps getting away with taking there customers money over and over, there are so many complaints of the same issue I wonder how many customers get ripped off by this company and never say anything. They got me for 855.00 with no receipt that reflects these charges or explanation as to why these charges were made to my account after I turned the car in also both times my cars were filthy dirty others trash left in it and they never accessed the damages to the car with me so I took my own pictures also no deposit back so that’s another 500 on top of the 855 so total 1355.00 so sadAvis Rent A Car

1 starIf I could give zero stars I would. So my husband and I rented a car sept 17th and dropped it of on the time we said we would and from there waited for our deposit back. Well, October and the middle of November came as my husband and I both called on multiple occasions for our deposit back which they said would be released a week after returning the rental. Well they finally gave it to us after my husband went to his bank but now we wake up today and they took OUR MONEY BACK! We will never return here and are upset that we have to deal with this nonsense again. We returned the car clean and the same way it was given yo us and we want our $200 back. Also, shakira or shakeera or whatever the young ladies name was on the phone for customer service was rude and short with me.Avis Rent A Car

1 starAfter decades I will never use Avis again. My father passed. I used a Avis car to drive home hours away. My father had passed and I had to travel home 10 hours away.
My father left me his car. I called Avis and asked to turn the car in. They told me they would have to charge me $500 on top of the $350. I told them this was unexpected but they did not care or try to help me in any way
After years of using Avis I will never turn to them again. Such a tragedy in my family and they could not care at all. Or even try to help. I’m sure they don’t care but I will never use this cold company again

1 starFirstly, instead of picking up the car immediately as Avis preferred advertises and usually executes, I had to wait in a line for 2 hours in a parking garage! Next I noticed they charged the $250 deposit to my card before I arrived at the counter. Upon arriving at the counter after 2 hours, I was told they didn’t have the car I reserved and forced me to “upgrade” to a bigger less fuel efficient car, (which cost me an extra $150 in fuel for my trip), then they went to run my card and it declined! Why you ask? Because they didn’t just charge me the $250 deposit once, they charged it 7 times in a matter of hours, resulting in my card being turned off! After calling the credit card company and having to wait another 30 minutes for the card to be reactivated, I finally got my car (now an SUV) ultimately they charged 9, $250 deposits on my cars. Which were temporarily authorizations and did fall off over the next few days, but this still tied up the entirety of my credit line for those days. When I finally got to the car, it was FILTHY! dirty on the outside, dirty on the inside and the tire pressures were all so different that the car pull horribly to the left until I inflated properly myself. Upon doing that, I noticed that the front tires were almost completely bald! This became a serious issue as I ended up driving in a heavy rain during my trip and had to constantly fight the car’s tendency to hydroplane for the better part of 2 hours of driving. Had I not been a professional driver (which I am) I shudder to think of the epic crash that I may have suffered due to this completely inadequate vehicle. Finally by the time I arrived at my destination, I was sick with the worst cold/ illness I have had since covid. Having been very careful about my exposures and health leading up to and during my trip, the only explanation I can think of is that I either got sick from contamination in the vehicle, or while waiting for what ended up as close to 3 hours in the parking garage.Avis Rent A Car

1 starRefused to honor the terms of their Amazon rate. I was supposed to receive an Amazon gift card for prepaying my reservation and would receive it after 48hrs once I returned the vehicle.
I returned it on December 2nd, which was a Saturday, so I pushed it a couple days later thinking that they'll still send it.
I emailed them on December 10th, thinking that it's already been a week, so there shouldn't be a reason not to send the information.
Was givena reply where they confirmed my reservation and everything, and they will send my request to the appropriate team.
It is now a week later and I've never received any response. I contacted them again and was given the same script.
If they can't even follow through with their own terms why bother even creating the promotion.Alan V.
