      I rented an Avis compact car from through ****** travel at Avis at ********************** on June17. The Avis representative ***** was rude and obnoxious. He told me the compact car I reserved two weeks early was not available but I could upgrade to an SUV at for a higher price. After speaking to Davids manager I was given a 4x4 **** F150 pickup for the same price. ***** they got annoyed I would pay for the gas in advance or agree to the extra insurance coverage. ***** was a total jerk and my wife and I were shocked Avis would employ such a scammer. Upon entering the truck we noticed cigarette butts on the floor, the outside was filthy, and the gas tank was 1/2 full! After contacting corporate Avis I was told I could exchange this vehicle for a clean compact car at another Avis location in **************; I drove to this location, waited on line again for 30 minutes only to be told no cars are available!I will contact ****** to requested they remove Avis as a car rental choices. ********

      Horrible, these scumbags don't tell you the entire price of the rental until you click "Reserve" then you'll see a boatload of fees added to the price you were quoted. Steer clear of these scum!

      Zero starts - scammers...made reservation via app and paid full amount ($904). Received email that owed another $943. Immediately went to cancel and said I would be charged $50 to cancel. I called...waited 15min and dropped call, called back and 5 min on hold and person came on and asked my name and then hang up, then called back and talked to nice person who could not find problem but canceled reservation and found the rate that I had agreed to before although it came up to $913. I agreed anyway and paid that amount. They told me I would get email receipt so next day I went in to print the receipt only to find that the amount was again wrong and it said the $913 was applied to a total that would be $1504...I called immediately the preferred number and gave all information and history and they transferred me to "customer service" (not sure what perferred number was for but basically started over again and the person said that I owed the extra $500+. I asked how that could be when this had happened twice and was not my mistake. After consulting supervisor, I was told they could make a note on reservation, collect the whole amount and then refund the addition back. I would not trust this company at all if they can't make a reservation on the front end and then have to try to get money back. Wow...this is definition of a scam...wonder how many others are trying to get money back or not even realizing the rate changed. This was on my corporate account which would just amplify my lack of integrity of AVIS. Horrible experience. Additional their AVR is poor and have to confirm, reconfirm and take forever to get to speak to person from one answer to the next. Wow; company with this much market share acting irresponsibly and without any accountability. DO NOT USE AVIS OR AFFILIATES.

      Rate prices can fluctuate on a minute-to-minute basis. Unless its an advertised special offer, there generally isnt one set rate for a particular type of car, but rather a range of prices depending on the length and dates of your reservation. Even with special offers, the advertised rate usually applies to a limited supply of cars which varies daily by make and model at each location. Any changes made to an existing reservation are subject to these factors and may result in a different quote. 

      We do confirm that the reservation was booked on June 30th and a prepayment of $913.34 was received. A modification was recorded, and this brought the reservation total to $1504.74 or a balance due of $591.40. A cancellation was received shortly after and the full prepayment of $913.34 was successfully refunded on July 1st. A receipt of the refund transaction has been sent to you separately for your records. 

      Although we realize that we cannot make up for a disappointing experience such as this, we do appreciate your contacting us.

      We rented an Suv from Avis on their website, it was a premium price for a big Suv. When we got there to pick up the car we were told there were no SUVs and we had to take a minivan. The minivan was considerably less expensive and I asked for a refund of the difference but was told they couldn't do anything for me at the desk, I had to call customer service to get any refund. We called and they told us the minivan was an upgrade, but on the website is was over 400$ less. I pointed this out and was told I had to create an account with ********************** to move on ffurther. Created an account and then was told they couldn't help me until I returned the car. We went on our trip and when loading the car the back seat was filthy, full of trash and food crumbs, absolutely disgusting. The steering wheel was sticky all over like it hadn't even been cleaned before we got it. We cleaned it up and went on our way. When we returned the car the Avis representative told us Avis does this regularly. They will rent cars to people knowing there are NONE available. She said that even when they cancel your rental they will KEEP YOUR MONEY until you call customer service to request it back. After we returned the car Avis charged us 305$ for cleaning because of a tiny amount of dog hair in the backseat, so they rent you a disgustingly dirty car and then charge you as much as the rental costs to clean it...Whatever you do, do not ever do business with Avis. The whole company is a scam and they need to be shut down. We were supposed to get an Suv for 840$ for 5 days, we were put in a minivan (which cost 398$ on their website) and not given any refund, then charged 305$ for cleaning fees. In total we have been charged 1100$ for a 5 day rental of a piece of junk dirty minivan. STAY AWAY FROM AVIS.

      We do recognize the alternate vehicle assigned to your use. Sometimes when making your reservation well in advance, we do expect to have certain vehicles available on those dates. But when the dates come, sometimes people who are already renting those vehicles may have extended their rental at the last minute, taking away what we had originally predicted to be available. We have applied a rate correction for the vehicle you had use of in an adjustment of $187.11, including tax. A copy of the corrected receipt has been issued for your records and should be received within the business day. You can also recover the most current receipt information on Avis.com under the Reservations menu by entering your last name and rental agreement number.
       
      If a car is returned to us with pet hair, stains, dirt, or other soilage residue that a customer leaves behind, a location will bill up to $450.00 to clean the car so that it can be rented again. This is the expense associated with restoring the car after rental use. We apologize, but we did not find a record of any pre-existing conditions from the time you picked up the vehicle. Please provide your copy of the vehicle inspection slip provided by the *** location for the condition of the car at the time of pick up for adjustment consideration.

      My boyfriend and I went in to look at cars and ended up finding one that he liked.We decided to go through with the purchasing process on the car with *********************.They asked us all of the normal information needed when purchasing a car and we told them all of the correct information such as that I pay$1,000 in rent monthly.We spend about 3hours there filling out all the paperwork and signing contracts.We paid a$500 down payment in CASH and were told"Congratulations on your new car!"We had all of the paperwork saying that we have a lending company and all that stuff was done.Or so we thought!a week later.I am getting an expedited letter in the mail saying that we need to return the car. I called them and the lady that did the sale,*******************************, was not in the office so I was like ok can I speak to a manager then because why am I receiving this letter? The general manager, ******,takes the call and tells me that I have to wait for ******** to be in the office because he has no idea what is going on.How does your GENERAL MANAGER not have knowledge of business being done in their location?We wait for her to be in the next day and she tells me to ignore the letter and its because she needed some additional papers. Alright, cool, I send them and I think everything is good.WRONG! The lending company calls to do a verification interview.Which I was told nothing about.As I am on the phone,they say that there are discrepancies all over the application because **** put that I pay less in rent than I do and listed other stuff incorrectly. After having the car for a MONTH,they call and say that the lender has fallen through and we have to return the car.I say ok,I want my cash back the same day I return the car to which I am told ok.I call the day before to give them time to make this happen.We go an they don't have the cash.I am told that they aren't supposed to take cash.Don't get my money back until 3 weeks later.They even began ignoring my calls and giving me attitude

      DO NOT USE THIS AVIS LOCATION! PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS! If I could give 0 stars, I would. This is an Avis franchise and the owner is a dishonest, reprehensible man that only cares about money and acts like he does not represent Avis. Like many customers who have commented ******* I reserved a standard SUV on Avis.com and prepaid for it. When I got there, I was told, by the owner, that they did not have my vehicle and I had to take a minivan one level up and pay over $120 plus tax and fees for it. I argued that I shouldn't have to pay extra because I had a reservation. The owner stated multiple times that I "had a reservation from Avis" not from him. He insisted many times that I had to pay extra to get this vehicle. If I didn't like it, I could go to Enterprise. Classic bait and switch and he had me, I had to have a vehicle. Turns out, he lied and marked that I wanted Loss Damage Waiver on my receipt for $35 per day which I (admittedly) missed. He never once mentioned this, only that the extra cost was for an upgraded vehicle. He would not ever state that I had a reservation with him, only with Avis and he wasn't Avis. Avis needs to trim dishonest franchise owners from their system.

      We booked and PREPAID for a minivan for our vacation, with a pickup time of 9:30am on the chosen date. We arrived at 9:30am and they did not have any minivans. The vehicle became available only at 11am, which ruined our plans for the first day of our vacation. When we picked it up at 11am it was dirty inside - they had not vacuumed it or removed trash. They offered NO discount and no compensation of any kind. When I called customer services I got an unhelpful representative located outside of ****** who was unsympathetic and told us we could not even get any coupons for future use because we didn't have a "membership account". The prepaid booking option is therefore essentially a scam. You pay your money and you get what they feel like giving you, at the time they feel like providing it, with no recourse if they do not provide what was promised at the time of purchase.

      Confirmed reservation for 9AM arrived at the location now being told Im to wait to hours yet there are vehicles available. 4 cars which is physical see in the lot. Called customer service after being told by the employee to do so. They have asked me to go to a location north to pick up the same vehicle at a higher price: yet the employee at the location I spent time and resources to is refusing my reservation.

      Absolutely TERRIBLE business. Id advise to not do any business with this company. None of the employees in customer service are competent. I had one lady whom answered the phone who couldnt even pronounce her own name. I received 3 different types of information on what the total charge would be. To top it all off, the card I initially used for the rental was lost and they gave me no other choice but to cancel the rental and pay even more since the date was closer to my trip on July 1st.

      Our prepay policy requires that the card that was used to make a prepayment must be physically presented at the time of pick-up to verifiy that the card is in the name of the renter. We cannot make exception to this policy nor change the card billed on a prepayment. In review of your case, it was confirmed that the card used to make the prepayment was stolen and we would not be able to validate the prepayment to release the rental.   

      The reservation was cancelled through the Avis.com self-service on June 28th. While our automated prepayment system typically processes adjustments within 3-5 days of a submission, it can take up to 10 business days (or 14 calendar days) in some cases; regretfully, we cannot expedite this process. 

      We are sorry to hear that this made for a poor experience.

      Shady Buisness. I rented a car for 2 weeks going to *******, ***** in the anticipation of driving around ***** and exploring. Unfortunately my two week vacation was ruined due to a broken car that Avis deemed broken. They said I would still have to pay for the full 2 weeks regardless of the car being broken and my vacation being ruined. I missed out on 9 of the 15 days of my vacation bc I could not drive the car. The gas tank could only be open with a butter knife which I didnt find out until when I needed gas. The dash screen went completely black and I could not see how fast I was going or how much actual gas was in the tank. The gas tank required an extreme amounts of gas during my travel further showing that the gas tank was not working properly. I have tried contacting AVIS over 70x via my cousin who can speak Italian and when I finally got through to speak to someone in Englishthe customer service rep hung up on me! I cannot believe a company can operate like this. They should not be able to rent out unsafe cars nor should they not provide a resolution of a refund. I spent a lot of money to come to ***** for vacation and rented a car to explore, which I was not able to properly do. This company is awful. I have never had so many issues with a car rental agency and the shady way this company operates. I even have AVIS PREFERRED which means absolutely nothing. This company wants your money and doesnt care about you as a customer. I will be contacting my lawyer and every local news station so that this doesnt happen to anyone else. I will be out $1300 US dollars for a faulty car if they do not provide a refund. I have proof of all the issues and extremely upset that my first time in ***** was completely ruined. AVIS IS A TERRIBLE COMPANY AND I WOJLD HIGHLY SUGGEST AVOIDING THIS AT ALL COST

      From review of the case, we confirm that we received an initial complaint about the assigned vehicle on June 16th, but the advisement to exchange the vehicle at that time was met with a refusal. Additional complaints were received and are currently in review by our International **************** team regarding the condition of the vehicle.
