James Stanley of Public Paving contacted ************ in *********** on April 23, 2024, stating that he had leftover asphalt from a contracting job. He asked me (Chair of Trustees) if we needed any asphalt. I explained that we had some large potholes in the church parking lot. He then agreed to repair the parking lot. At 4:00 on April 24, James, his team, and equipment arrived at the church. I showed James the areas needing repair. He then explained that the job would require about 1000 sq. feet of asphalt, which he would provide for $4 a square foot. I agreed, and that we would meet on the morning of April 24 to review and that I would provide payment. James' team began the work. Upon review the next day, I found that James had paved more than 1/2 of the entire parking lot. The estimated amount of asphalt he applied was about ****** sq. feet. He initially wanted $34,000 for the work. I gave James a check for $14,500 from my personal checking account. After speaking with the church Pastor and Treasurer, it was decided to put a "stop payment" on the check and seek assistance from BBB and the state's Attorney General on the matter.

Hired on Sep 7, 2021 to replace my driveway for $5,000. Job was completed in October 2021. He gave me a 2 year guarantee on the work performed. A 2 inch binder and a 2 inch top coat was stated in the contract. The workers only installed one coat. After the first winter I noticed the asphalt was starting to crumble in different spots on the driveway. Also ******** that was built at the end of the driveway was not holding back the rainwater from coming down the driveway and the area around the storm drain had been undermined. I have been calling and texting James on a regular basis with him promising to come back and do the repairs. My last text was June 1, 2023 to which he has not responded.
