I received an invoice for "BLS Emergency" from Bud's Ambulance on@ 9/20/25. The date of the call is listed as 5/24/24. This related to an accident I was involved in on 5/24/24. I did not contact Bud's ambulance for service. I was not seen by any EMT. I never even saw an ambulance on the scene. My vehicle was drivable and I left the scene after the police completed their report. I contacted Bud's and informed them of the situation. The person said they would note the file. I have now received another bill. This seems pretty sketchy. 18 months past the accident date. No service was provided. **** me $1900 and generously offers a $1500 discount leaving me a balance of $400. They have been made aware that this is an illegitimate invoice. Yet they continue to bill me. I believe I am not the only one they are doing this to. They are preying on people long after the accident and trying to extort money for no rendered services. I'm sure other people; especially older people are frightened into paying the discounted amount while Bud's steals their money. If this wasn't the case I never would have received a bill and if it was a mistake, it would have been rectified after I contacted them.Business Response

Our office is receipt of this complaint, and this serves as our response.
On May 24, 2024, **** ******** and ******** ******* were involved in an automobile collision. ************************* responded to the scene and requested assistance from our office. Our ambulance was dispatched and both parties were evaluated on scene. Attached please find Illinois Traffic Crash Report. Mr. ******** did refuse to be transported, but we treated him on scene. We then requested that he complete a ***************** Multiple Release Form. See Attachment #2. Not only did Mr. ******** complete this, but he signed this as well. Upon evaluation and legal refusal, our crewmembers deemed he could be released and leave the scene. Mr. ******** then went on to receive a cash settlement from *********************** carrier, GEICO. We know this, because we contacted them for payment of this claim. They indicated that the claim is closed and that Mr. ******** accepted settlement of their offer. Additionally, that settlement indicated that any future claims would be the responsibility of Mr. ******** for payment. Perhaps review of the settlement paperwork would indicate this invoice is his responsibility.
We believe that Mr. ******** filed a complaint with your office that was not wholly truthful and upon review of attached documentation, you will close this matter in favor of our office.
Thank you for your time in advance.

I am rejecting this response because: The attachment that they submitted to the BBB shows that I signed an electronic document stating the following:
"REFUSAL OF SERVICES: This is to certify that the below listed individual is refusing the services offered by the ambulance and its attendants. They acknowledge that they have been informed of the risk involved and hereby release the ambulance service the ambulance attendants the physician consultant and the consulting hospital from all responsibility for any ill effects which may result directly or indirectly from this action."
Nowhere in this document did I agree to any services or expenses. It clearly indicates, in their own words, that I refused their services (that I did not request) and that I am releasing them of any liability from any ill effects of my decision.
Feel free to reach out to me with any additional questions.Sincerely,

The language of the release indicates that the patient will not hold us liable for any adverse effects after he left our care. On scene, he was told by the medics that treated him of this and that includes up to and including death. This is required by Illinois State Law. Clearly reading this refusal, one can deduce that is for medical treatment only and does not absolve any responsible party from billing. These are two totally different issues. This is not an uncommon practice to bill for refusals. Please look into *********************** as they practice this as well. Most municipalities have passed ordinances allowing this to be billed for due to the lack of funding in their department budgets. We are not the abnormal, we are following the established norm in the State of Illinois.
Additionally, I believe this individual was compensated by his insurance company, which would have included any future bills to be paid by him.

I am rejecting this response because: Apparently this business doesn't understand what "********************" actually means. A tow truck also showed up on the scene and offered to tow my vehicle and I declined. I didn't receive a bill for towing since they didn't tow my vehicle. I think you should take a page from their book or have someone explain to you that I am under no obligation to pay you for services that were not rendered.Sincerely,

I was in a car accident on April 10, 2025, at around 4:30pm. I called 9-1-1 for the police but not for an ambulance. The 9-1-1 service called for an ambulance themselves. I refused all medical treatment and signed a waiver stating that I was refusing medical treatment. I was not administered any medical treatment via the ambulance nor was I transported to a hospital. However, I have received a bill for $1900.00. I contacted the ambulance company to notify them that the bill is an error, and I did not request nor need an ambulance. I was told that it did not matter and that I was responsible for the charges anyway. I verbalized that I would not be paying for a bill for services I did not request, need or use. However, I keep receiving bills from this company. I feel that I should not be responsible for services that were not requested or used.Business Response

This individual was seen by our medics on April 10, 2025.
I have attached the patient care report showing all treatments provided as well as the patient's signature that not on did she sign, but that she refused to be transported to the hospital.
It is worth noting that the police department would have contacted our office and requested an ambulance.
The officer on scene did that.
The patient still is liable for services rendered.
Her insurance has denied this claim for whatever reason, and this is her responsibility to pay.
We reduced the rate by $1500 to her and are requesting full amount to be paid to us of $400.
We feel this matter is closed.
We have certainly provided sufficient documentation to substantiate the actual bill to your office.
Thank you.

Better Business Bureau:
I spoke to the manager ****. 1st he said if they were called, they have to bill me and after I told him I never requested their service, he then said the police called them. I told him I never received services, and he said I signed a refusal. I told him I they never got out the ambulance, and I never spoke to them, and he called me a liar. He then said there is sometimes a glitch in their system which caused the bill to go to me and not my insurance company. They do not know who my insurer is, that's why they can't bill my insurance. Then I told him I work with the ****** ** he then said we could work something out. I told him it's nothing to work out, I never talked to them and NEVER signed a refusal. He didn't even try to help correct this. He called me a liar and said I'm responsible for the bill. They do not have my signature. Please assist.Sincerely,

This bill was submitted to the patient's insurance.
The invoice the patient received was requesting that she reaches out to her insurance to confirm details of accident.
****************************** has verified we were requested and on scene.
This is also available information on the complainant's motor vehicle collision report for Illinois.
This is not a request to pay from the patient, and our office is only seeking information from automobile insurance company.
We believe this matter to be closed.
Thank you.
