A company I worked for would not allow me to take a lump sum payment in place of my pension. Yet, the company later turned my pension over to these liars. The software used by Athene seems functional at first. The software lists the dates of payments, but it does not say where each payment went. Through the software, I changed my direct deposit bank and received a nice letter stating the change is effective. The software also indicates direct deposits go to the bank I requested. However, months later my direct deposits have not changed. Their messaging software indicates messages will be answered in one business day. The only response I have had took two weeks. The only time they answered a phone call from me was after I was on hold for 2.5 hours! One star is misleading, but I have to select one.Athene USA Response

Worst company to get ahold of; then took forever to return a call. Do not ever purchase annuities from this company. They lose money and have riders you cannot get rid of EVER. In 6 years $110G turned into 90G and there was nothing we could do about it other than fire the financial advisor and get what I believed to be a Return of Capital, but no, 1099-R. Took 10 days to even cash the check. You can call several times and get a different answer. Utterly useless people answering the phones, ask for a supervisor if you can get that far.Review from becky H

Athene sent me documents to fill out and send back to them by Feb 24 2024..and even missing a few things I missed or didn't sign I managed to get all the documents back to them by Nov 2023 for my Annuity pay out and every time I call they tell me it's still processing ..it doesn't take months to process a payout.every thing is done electronically..I think they are trying to scam me so it's time for me to get a lawyer.Review from Caryn W

I cashed out an annuity three weeks ago. I wanted to buy a bitcoin for 41k. They sent the check to the wrong address even though we told them ***************. We asked them to direct deposit in my husbands checking account. They said they would. After not seeing the money posted, I called and they sent the check to the old address. They were very rude wouldnt let us speak to a supervisor. They put a stop payment but now we have to wait. Bit coin is now 52k. This company sucks!Athene USA Response

Do not use this company. The customer service people have no idea what they are doing. The supervisor of customer service is redesign and disrespectful. ATHENE contract agents well not tell you all the facts b4 getting your signature. This company is the absolute worst. Never, never, never invest with them. They use bait and switch mechanisms to lure in uneducated people. Beware! Zero stars if I could.Athene USA Response

Due to the death of my father, I've had to deal with this company. They seem SHADY! The first person I spoke to didn't even tell me there was a death benefit, they straight up tried to keep several thousand dollars to themselves and away from me. The second person I called just didn't even register the death of the account owner (my dad) as not to trigger any notifications to me (the beneficiary). Then when I finally called 2 weeks later to make sure they did that, they didn't mail me the requisite paperwork they said they would. After waiting the full 9 business days (after a month of waiting) I was told they would 'expedite' things and I should wait another 5 days. I really have no confidence that they will issue the payout in a timely or accurate fashion. Just what everyone needs after losing a loved one, dealing with an organization that is structured to cause you stress, forget things, give up, miss a deadline etc... so they can keep what is rightly yours.I really feel like they're trying to scam me, and therefore violate the terms of the legal arrangement they had with my dad, and now have with me.'I DO NOT RECCOMMEND THIS PLACEAthene USA Response

Wow! I'm considering using a Athene annuity product. It sounds like they better get their act together serving their clients. There are several competitive choices out there and the one thing that often distinguishes one company from another is how they respond and treat their client issues. Pretty scary stuff as far as negative reviews. This really makes me think twice before making a decision to go with Athene.Review from Aladin S

It’s amazing! This company is fraud. I just found these reviews and realized that the transfer of funds to the wrong banks is the standard process of this institution. They transferred my IRA to the wrong bank that no more exists despite my clear instructions and I have been getting the usual answer that they recalling the money and I must wait another week. They admitted it is their own mistake, yet, I have to wait for a bank that doesn’t exist to answer them. They don’t even want to send me proof of their order or my order. I keep sending emails to the different emails they send to me and all I get is “you need to send to us to the same emails that I send to. Horrible company to do business with. They are supposed to transfer ****s within 3-5 business days. Its now 4 weeks and three very large liquid transfers hasnt been completed. They mailed one to the wrong address regular mail with no tracking number. The others just wasnt processed. On hold for 30 minutes to reach the a customer rep each time I called. Two of them sounded like they just woke up and the other was rude. I have been with this company for years and had planned to bring back a 7 figure contract but that will not happen. I will be contact the state insurance commissioners office and the *** to log formal complaints.Athene USA Response
