  My dad passed away 6-11-24. Left me as beneficiary of his annuity through ******. For 4 months I had to send them the same paper work over and over again. Now it's 4-11-25 and i haven't heard from them in 4 months and I haven't received any money. If there was a spot to give a 0 I would. How can they treat people like this. I do not recommend them. Ripping people off. This is all my dad left me. Thanks athene

  This company does not deserve a 1 star rating. Mother passed away and had a death benefit/policy with Athene. Gave us a run around on filling out one form after another, needed clearer copies, needed documents that we didn't have, had to go to probate and spent $1200.00 to get a document they stated was needed. Over a period of 2 years one phone call after another, email after email, phone call after phone call only for them to state that they sent the money to my states lost funds. Admitted no one at the company was processing the paperwork that was sent in a total of ***** times. They never had any intention on paying the money. They won't take responsibility for their employees not doing their jobs and making false statements. They won't let you speak to anyone outside the supervisor either. The also cannot assist with the lost funds. I would never take a policy with this company because all you will get is the run around and if it's a death policy your children will be upset not only over your death, but they will get harassed and hurt even more. Stay far away from this company!!!!!

  Athene is awful. STAY AWAY!!!! My father passed away in nov 2023 from cancer and left me an annuity. I met with my financial advisor January 2024 and we called Athene, representative told both of us that there were no capital gains on the money so I decided to cash out and pay off my house. Forward to January of 2025 and I received a 1099r from Athene for capital gains in the amount of $32,000 which means I owe the *** $8,200 on my taxes this year. I would have never cash the annuity out rather reinvested and paid the taxes over a long period of time. When I called Athene they admitted to the mistake but the only recourse would be for me to send them the total amount of the annuity back and theyd resend me a new 1099r like the money was never withdrawn. Money has already been spent. No way for me to come up with that kind of money. Total was more than $32k. They really dont know what they are doing there and Id never trust them with my retirement. Please stay away from them and find a reputable financial advisor.

  Athene and State street bank are unable to deliver my pension payments on time. Throughout the year if the first of the month lands on a weekend my pension is not available until the weekend is over. Sure it's only a couple of days but it adds up over time. All the pension documents I received were clear on when the pension would be paid. Athene, do what you say you are going to do on delivering pension payments the way you advertise !!!!!!

  BEWARE: This is a for profit annuity company. I incurred more fees than earnings. How after 5 years can this be? Do not invest with Athene.

  I've had an annuity for years and this company has been the worst I have ever dealt with over any other company just in general the past month up to today. **************** is horrible and they don't even keep in touch with their customers if there was an issue with trying to update new direct deposit banking information to receive your payments. I did everything by the book and then followed up and was told it was processing and it was good. Now today my money never deposited and I called for them to tell me they couldn't process it because my signatures don't match, which is absolute BS! I signed both forms one after the other and now they have to send a check in the mail and causing delays. This is a ridiculous. Prior to this incident was another one where I had so many issues when trying to purchase a new home. I had to get supervisors involved. This company is extremely unprofessional! You don't know how to take care of your customers whatsoever.

  Athene gave my sister and I the same run around not dispersing the money within the time they said they would. I gave an extra 10 business days before I called, and they told me the exact same thing they told my sister one week later!!!!!!! They keep your money until you call and complain, then they give you more run around so they can earn as much money on your money as possible.

  Completely unethical. ******** customer service. Huge wait times. As so many folks have already commented, they ignore you & purposefully delay completing any transaction for withdrawal or transfer of YOUR money.

  Do not invest your money in this company, your children will not get it easily. I am on my last attempt with them before contacting our attorney. Like others have said it's a steady cycle of sending in their documentation they need, I sent mine in the same way five times now and each time they contradict their self saying something different is wrong. I reported them to the fraud department because I'm not sure if they're just wanting to not release the funds or if someone in the office is toying with us because I did place a complaint about one of their associates and the rudeness and coldness that they displayed while calmly and politely asking simple questions. Today I am going to record the call and fill out the form the exact same way they tell me to every time, but this time no more toying around with us. I hope the president reads these because the people in the office I was assigned to need replacing, my name is ***** **** and I am her son, her name was ****** ****, two54925798 dob *******, dod ******* if you would like to dig **** I myself will continue to spread this info for my entire life to everyone I encounter that is important to me.
