I am filing this complaint regarding services provided by SGM Construction. I contracted them in July 2025 to perform deck construction/repair. I paid $6,500 for this work. The issues are as follows:The work performed was faulty and below professional standards, including:Deck boards were not properly sealed, causing leaks and water damage.[Any other defects, e.g., structural supports improperly secured or loose railings]SGM Construction misrepresented themselves in their response to the BBB, stating [quote or summarize their false claims], which is inaccurate.I have attempted to resolve this directly with SGM Construction on [list dates if applicable], but they have refused to correct the work or issue a refund.I am requesting:A full refund of $6,500, or Proper correction of the deck work to meet professional and safety standards.Attached are copies of all supporting documentation, including contracts, invoices, photos of the faulty work, and correspondence with the company.I appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter and ensuring that SGM Construction is held accountable for their services and misrepresentation.

This can happen when suggestions are ignored. To begin this job was on a previously existing deck and material of choice was chosen by homeowner. There is no $6,500 for this project. When a deck is exposed to weather, we always suggest creating a slope for drainage since the porch was leveled. When mentioned to client they decided to place tile as is as they did not want price to increase and/ or create the slope. Creating the slope on the existing porch would increase around $2,200. This issue had already been mentioned once directly to homeowner explaining that if the slope was not created the option of material under the porch would be very important. Homeowner choice of material for under porch was one quarter white plywood. With this material being chosen with humidity it had been damaged. When homeowner discussed the issue, we decided to replace material and labor at NO cost to homeowner. When we suggested to change the first chosen material be replaced to PVC sheets, homeowner did not want to do that because it would be additional cost for material although we were willing to help with labor at very low cost or no cost. We then agreed to add PVC material around at no cost but could not replace entire project material with homeowner not wanting to pay, in which homeowner was made aware and agreed as they just wanted it replaced. Many details were done around the projects at no cost to homeowner in good ***** for relationship that was built. We have not received any email in regard to this issue. Text messages were not received but emails will always be responded. Attached is estimate for material under porch that was paid for regarding images attached by homeowner, that being $1,210. Our suggestion is replacing material under deck with PVC sheet material, but cost of material and labor cannot be done at no cost, as these issues were mentioned when actively working on project. Cost to homeowner would be less than $2,000. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out by email or give us a call. Thank you.
