May 2023 ************************* was hired to replace my MerCruiser lower unit. ***** advised that my leaking shaft seal issue was not repairable and I needed to purchase a new lower unit over considering purchasing a reconditioned lower unit at a lower cost. I agreed to purchase a new one so that I would have a full manufacturer warranty. When the work was completed I paid ***** in full and at no time was I provided any warranty information. I was not able to see the boat or look over the work ***** had done until this past week when I traveled back to GA to pick the boat up in the early morning hours to bring it back to Alabama. Only until I had it back home and it was light out was I able to look over his work. Cosmetically the new lower unit was very beat up. Severely scratched metal showing through the paint and noticeable corrosion was visible, preventing the paint from adhering. It appeared to be a used unit. Externally, it was in worse condition than the one that I had replaced. I immediately reached out to ***** to discuss my displeasure with what I was seeing. Once on the phone ***** changed his story and stated that I purchased a reconditioned unit and that it was an upgraded version (bravo 3 XR version). He claimed it was purchased through a manufacturer by the name of SEI. He also said he kept my old unit as it was required to be sent back to SEI as a core exchange. The next day I spoke directly with SEI and it turns out that they do not sell reconditioned bravo 3 XR units and they do not require core replacements. I asked them how I would access my warranty if it was needed and they said through the serial number which is provided both on the outside of the box it is shipped in and it was also stamped on the inside of the lower unit. Since ***** never provided me with the serial number I pulled the unit off myself to see what the serial number was and there is no serial number listed on the unit. ************************* has scammed me out of $5250.
