On August 29th I downloaded the "Criminal Record" app to help find a old friend, I paid a one time fee $1 as it said I would to unlock the feature to receive the information that was found. I was charged that day $1 from "Pl Peoplelooker.com", not only was I unable to use the service again, but today I wake up to an attempt charge of $21.51 from "Pl Peoplelooker.com" when I never subscribed to anything. I need them to stop trying to charge me, this isn't right and legally speaking it's not right either. I'm hoping you can help me with this.Business Response

The account was created on 8/29/2022 with our $1.00 7-day trial. Upon further review, it appears we did not receive a request to cancel prior to the end of the trial. In that event, your account attempted to automatically renew the monthly subscription of $21.51.
When signing up for our background reports, the subscription does outline that it will auto-renew until elected to cancel. This company somehow obtains the card information for my 12yr old daughters greenlight card and keep attempting to bill it even though we've canceled that card. I was signed up for peoplelooker and charged $23. I was unaware I was signed up for a membership and I would like to be refunded for the payment that just went through. I trued canceling it through email last billing period, and it still has not been resolved.Business Response

The account was created on 04/18/22 with our 7-day trial.
Upon further review, it appears we did not receive a request to cancel prior to the end of the trial.
In that event, your account was automatically renewed to the monthly subscription.

Refund details was emailed to the email address associated with your PeopleLooker account.

On June 9 2022 I looked up a license plate number of a car that has been following/stalking me for several weeks. Through search results i found a site - the name of which I'm unable to retrieve since I was using DuckDuckGo as the browser - that claimed a single report was only $1. I went through the prompts for my info and after getting the report that had NO information in it (the page when i first typed in the license plate number said "we found results for #____" like many sites do before getting you to pay). Right then i got back to back notifications from cashapp that I was charged the $1 I expected AND another charge for *****. There was a chat with customer support option which I used immediately to protest the second charge and furthermore inform them that they provided me with a report containing no information (after claiming that they did have records on it). The charges read as backgroundlooker. I couldn't have signed up there because a website with that name does not exist. I asked them to reverse the charges and the chat bubble CSR talked to me like I was just having trouble finding the report on the page and basically ignoring my repeated requests to reverse these charges for an unsatisfactory and misleading service and to cancel whatever fake subscription or membership they had auto enrolled me in. Since then, there have been various random charges from businesses I've never heard of i.e. Data Value Results, Track the Data, Search Your Data, etc. No search engine has any info about any company or site by those names even existing! I think these charges must all be related to backgroundlooker - I disputed the ***** charge via cashapp since good luck finding BGL anywhere online, cashapp couldn't find a reason to dispute since I did give them my info and did receive a report from them. Oh also I'm broke, so the other charges failed to go through, but it's still not okay that they were even attempted by fake businesses i never used. Total scam(s)!Business Response

Thank you for responding. The transaction appears under the name Backgroundlooker (please see attached). Multiple search engines have returned no contact (or any) info for a company or service with that name; only search results under the name Peoplelooker appear. My search eventually led me to the BBB site where I found numerous complaints describing the same problem I experienced. Several of these complaints state that they were charged by Backgroundlooker rather than Peoplelooker. My overall impression, and that of other consumers as reported to BBB online, was that Peoplelooker is likely the same entity or an affiliated site under the same owner as Backgroundlooker.

We have not heard of Background Looker nor do we have contact information for them.
We looked in our system and there are no accounts with your name and email or with charges matching that date.
We offer public records search and our name is similar so maybe that's why we come up when you search them.
Additionally, we do offer a subscription service that bills if you don't cancel which is why you may see similar complaints.
But we do not advertise single reports as we do not offer that.
Our suggestion would be to reach out to that card service and see if there is any number attached to that charge on your statement or if they create their own billing descriptions.

Im Feb 2022 I was buying a car and was looking for a free car fax report on it. I come across a site (I dont remember the name) it was only $1. I signed up got my report and then noticed I was charged $24.95 a month after that. My bank statement shows that the charge is from backgroundlooker.com. I have never gone to this website and have not signed up here either. I dont do background checks. I have sent them an email but no reply yet.Business Response
