Shower arm pipe broke off of drop ear. They fixed the pipe but damaged our shower head in the process. Also charged us to look at our kitchen sink and tell us where the water was leaking from (anyone could see where the water was leaking from). Called to complain that they damaged our shower head. The plumber came back out to take a look at the shower head and said it was a defect in the shower head. It was not leaking before they came to fix the pipe. Had to complain that they charged us extra to look at the kitchen sink and then damaged our shower head. They said they would install a new shower head but we would have to buy it. They didn’t end up fully installing it because a full install would cost more money. A really nightmare and a huge charge.

      Business Response

I apologize for our delayed response. I have reviewed the job in question for one of our new customers, ******* ****** (*** ****** *** ***** ******** ** *****). We received a call from *** ****** on February 27th, 2025. At that time, the customer said the pipe connected to the shower head at the top had completely fallen off or broke. She said that it looked like it had previously been glued together. This same issue had happened sometime in the past and the customer had hired another plumber to fix it, *** ****** said. She further said that she had barely pulled on the shower head when she was cleaning and bumped it, and if fell off. It was still connected but would pop off when you pulled it hard enough. The other area of service she needed was for the kitchen sink faucet, which she said was leaking from a pull-down sprayer. Her husband wanted us to take a look at it.

Our technician was scheduled for service on February 28th, 2025. He diagnosed to find the shower arm in the downstairs bathroom broken at the drop ear 90° and needed to be replaced. The work for the shower arm included removing the old broken shower arm from the broken piece in the drop ear, cleaning out the broken bits from the drop ear 90°, installing a new shower arm to the drop ear 90°, taping and doping the shower arm, and reconnecting the shower head to the shower arm. He then tested the shower arm. There were no leaks at the shower head or shower arm. The shower was working normally.

He also found that the customer had a leak coming from the sprayer hose on the American Standard single-handle, pull-down kitchen faucet. The customer had a leak coming from the swivel joint above the threaded connection to the sprayer head. The sprayer hose would need to be replaced with a new one. He advised the customer that the sprayer hose wait time for arrival was approximately 10 days. The customer said she understood and would call the ****** supply house for said sprayer hose part. There was no charge for the diagnosis.

On March 3rd, 2025, *** ****** called back to report that there was a leak when her husband took a shower. Our technician returned to *** ******'s home on March 3rd. He found the shower head leaking from its connection to the shower arm. After investigation, he further found the shower head's threaded female connector had a hairline crack in it, letting water through. He explained to the customer that the shower head would need to be replaced. The customer would buy their own shower head and call us back to install it.

On March 4th, 2025, *** ******'s husband, ****** ********, called the office. He believed we were at fault for the shower head damage and didn't think they should pay to have the new shower head installed. To satisfy the customer, we installed the customer's shower head at no additional cost on March 5th. We sent out a different technician at the request of *** ********.

After receiving several calls from *** ******'s mother about our service, we resolved to issue the customer a refund for the full cost of the job. We mailed out a check to the customer and followed up with a call to *** ******. We left *** ****** a voice message.

We truly value our customers here at Joe the Plumber. If there are any issues, we always strive to resolve them in a timely fashion. Please feel free to follow up if you need any additional information.

      Thanks So Much,

      Willie J. W******

Was charged $1,000 for a leak repair and stopped replacement. Both broke within months of the service. Leak is occurring again in same location. Stopped is jammed and doesn’t work. My furniture and ceiling is ruined.

This complaint was from the tenant and the landlord ordered and paid for the work that was complete. We informed the landlord that more work needed to be done to solve the issue and he declined the service. At that point it was out of our hands.
