I manage a four-apartment rental building. The building had a boiler for space heating, plus two 40 gallon water heaters for domestic hot water, for all apartments. The boiler was a ******* btu unit from ****. I asked TNT to quote replacing the boiler with a new unit with a sidearm heat exchanger for hot water. They quoted the work without measuring the building or calculating the required size of the boiler. TNT chose the equipment to quote. After accepting the quote, I realized they had quoted a ******* btu boiler. I asked the TNT technician if the unit was large enough and he said "Absolutely! No Problem!"But the unit was not large enough. Over the winter, when temperatures dropped below 0 F, the boiler could not maintain temperatures in the apartments warm enough, sometimes not above 60F. I complained and asked TNT for solutions or a recommendation. ******* inspected the building and entered all units to inspect the units. No recommendations were made, and nothing was proposed to remedy the problem. I asked repeatedly to speak with ****** the owner, but I was never contacted.Finally I contracted with a different company to replace the boiler with an appropriately sized ******* btu unit. That work cost me $12,500. I am willing to pay the higher cost of the larger boiler, perhaps $3,000. However, the cost of removal and installation of a second boiler should be paid for by TNT.
