It now takes so long to received most of the results of an order placed using Rakuten it is very difficult to follow up on these items. It used to take a few days or maybe a week with certain companies. If i didn't received something i could send information back to Rakuten. However, now i might have to wait 14 weeks. It makes almost impossible to follow up on everything. Why waist my time using Rakuten for a few pennies or a couple of dollars.Rakuten

I am writing to express my frustration with Rakuten’s recent handling of cashback rewards for one significant purchase I made through their platform. Despite clear promises of cashback incentives for purchases at Totalwireless (February 2025), the welcome bonus were retroactively marked as “ineligible” without any meaningful explanation. When I initially contacted Rakuten about this purchase, I received no response addressing why the cashback was voided leaving me to question the company’s commitment to honoring its advertised rewards. These purchases were made explicitly because Rakuten promoted them as eligible for cashback, and I relied on those promises when choosing where to shop. The lack of transparency is concerning. If Rakuten intends to retroactively invalidate purchases, they should provide clear, advance notice of exclusions or policy changes—not leave customers guessing after the fact. This practice undermines trust and makes it difficult to take their rewards program seriously. I hope Rakuten will review this complaint along with a resolution that aligns with their original promises. Until then, I cannot recommend their services to others. I urge the BBB to investigate whether Rakuten is engaging in deceptive practices by advertising cashback rewards it does not intend to honor.Rakuten

Their entire case hinged on a shared name and a ****** email, which I explicitly stated was likely fraudulently linked by a third party. I am thinking that Rakuten is running some shady business practices. They have now put two of my large purchases, one from ******* and the other from *** Ban as illegible purchases. They promise cash back rewards on both, and now just marked both purchases one from Dec-******* (*******) and the other Feb-****** (*** Ban) as illegible without really giving an appropriate explanation. I have written about the ******* purchase to them but never got an explanation. I hope the company follows through their promise to customer and not make empty promises that they cannot keep and customers basing their purchases on the promise of a cashback.Rakuten

When making a purchase, they sometimes don't even record the shopping trip, forcing you to escalate to customer service. When they do record the trip, they'll place the purchase in the Pending category, and then either let that sit in limbo for months, let it expire, or deny it for any random reason. Rakuten seems to have a shady practice of promising cash back rewards based on purchases you make at specific online retailers, but when you make a large purchase, they try to say the purchase is "Ineleigible". Only after you open a dispute, and jump through unnecessary hoops, do they consider honoring their advertised cash back to you. They make money off of the retailers by guiding you to their website and then try to deny you the money you are entitled to keeping it all to themselves.Rakuten

I referred a friend via text link their account automatically registered them as me then said our referral was ineligible. We both have been trying to contact them but keep getting the same generic email sent back. Why isn't there a customer service *** we can talk too! Don't offer bonuses if you refuse to pay them. I have been using Rakuten for a long time and the past few months all of my cash back has been pending. Even after a confirmed email being sent that cash is verified and on its way. Over $80 pending from various sites and using only the coupon codes Rakuten suggests and no others. It has been since September and still have multiple orders still saying pending.Rakuten

My cash back was confirmed weeks before the payment date on 11/15. I've emailed them over 4 times since then and all I get is an automated email saying they'll get back to me. Which they never have. They are a complete waste of time and energy and liars. I recommend using the honey cash back extension instead of rakuten. I don't recommend.Rakuten
