Our kitchen faucet died on Saturday 11/26 after almost 20 years of reliable service. We wanted to replace it ASAP and went to Ashby Lumber in Berkeley. We chose them because we are over 65 and were concerned about potential crowds at Home Depot. We purchased a facet and inquired about the return policy. No problem returning as long as in original packaging. The box containing the faucet was taped shut. We found a wonderful plumber willing to come to our home the following evening to install the faucet. When he opened the box he told us that Ashby Lumber had sold us a used faucet. We paid the plumber for his time and I planned to take time out of my work day to return the used, defective merchandise. Ashby Lumber refused to refund for the used faucet, They inferred that we were trying to scam them even after I put my husband and plumber uncoached on speaker phone to describe what happened. They did not apologize for any inconvenience and kept me at the store as they “investigated” close to 2 hours. I had not anticipated being at the store that long and had to leave for a Zoom meeting with my boss. I didn’t want another faucet from them, I wanted my money back and to just get out of the store. They gave me 2 choices - take another faucet or cash card. If they sold me a defect item they should honor their error and refund my purchase. Went home and immediately asked our contractor to not shop at Ashby Lumber.
