Recognizing companies that demonstrate integrity and a strong commitment to ethics in all aspects of business.

What are the Better Business Bureau® (BBB) Business of Integrity Awards? The mission of your BBB is to promote and foster the highest ethical relationship between businesses and the public through voluntary self-regulation, consumer and business education, and service excellence. In this spirit, your BBB conducts an annual awards program to gain public recognition for businesses and organizations that maintain a solid commitment to conducting their business practices in an ethical fashion.

How does it work? Each year, companies of different sizes are selected through a regional competition to receive a Business of Integrity Award. Winning entries are then given the option to apply for the Council of Better Business Bureau’s International Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics competition.

The Business of Integrity Award is designed to promote not only the importance of ethical business practices, but the willingness and efforts made by outstanding businesses to ensure that our marketplace remains fair and honorable. Every winner and finalist of a BBB Business of Integrity Award has an unprecedented opportunity for public recognition and well-deserved visibility.

Who can apply? The Business of Integrity Awards program is open to all businesses and organizations that service Upstate South Carolina within the 10 counties we serve (Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, Union). Companies must be in good standing with BBB; however, BBB Accreditation is not a requirement for entry or consideration.

Where do the proceeds go? Proceeds from this event go toward the Better Business Bureau Education Foundation* to provide important educational services and scholarships to students within the ten counties we serve.

How many employees does each category need to apply?
There are five available size categories based upon number of employees: 

  • Category I: 1 – 10 employees
  • Category II: 11 – 49 employees
  • Category III: 50 – 199 employees
  • Category IV: 200+ employees 
  • Category V: Local Affiliate Franchise of Regional/National Company

What are the categories? Each company is asked to complete a formal entry. The three awards companies can apply for are Marketplace Ethics, Customer Service, and Community Service

1) Applicants must be a company that demonstrates:

  • Ethical practices in the marketplace
  • Honest marketing and advertising practices
  • Community industry recognition for sound business practices
  • Effective training and assistance for their employees in carrying out ethical policies.

2) Applicant must submit a business questionnaire, for each category that they are applying for, to be considered for this award. The company will be required to pay a $100 entry fee, which will apply to one category. Applications for additional categories will require an additional $50 fee for each category and a separate application for each category. The entry fee of $100 will include two tickets to the BBB Education Foundation Business of Integrity Dinner on Thursday, November 8th at the Hilton Greenville where finalists and award winners will be recognized. Only 2 tickets will be included, regardless of the number of categories entered. Additional tickets may be purchased.

What’s the judging process?
Entries are then reviewed by an independent panel of judges. The judges determine the award recipients for each category. The winners are recognized at the Business of Integrity Awards Gala.

What are the exclusions?
A company is not eligible to compete if any of the following conditions apply: 

  • They have been in business less than 3 years
  • They have earned less than a “B” rating from the BBB
  • There are indications they have not met their financial obligations
  • Previous category winners may not enter for three consecutive years from the year they received the award. However, they may enter in another category.
