    Warning: Lengthy review…hope you can read to the end…otherwise, skip to the end for my conclusion. For years, whenever there was heavy rain, I would get up on the attic to position drip pans and buckets to capture the water dripping through multiple locations along the ridge vent of the roof. Couple of repair attempts failed to fix all the leaks. We did receive estimates from multiple companies to replace the roof. But we kept stretching out the life of the roof until this year, 14 years after the new built of the house, we are finally ready to go ahead with the roof replacement. I searched online with a few criteria: BBB (Better Business Bureau) highest rating established for years, no negative customer reviews, preferably local company (considering the support of local business and potentially less overhead compared to larger companies). I narrowed down to two companies, Sentry Construction and another company in my town. This past Monday, I called both companies. I was answered by the other company and they would come out to give estimate on Wednesday because heavy rain was forecasted on Tuesday. I called Sentry Construction twice and nobody answered the call. I left my contact information on Sentry’s website and received a call back the next day, promising to come to my house on Wednesday also. Since I read reviews on bad customer experiences when involving insurance company as a third party. I told both companies up front that I would not bother to file insurance claim. Sentry Construction sent two people (Kyle, the sales and Nathan, who took the measurement on the roof) to my house at 4 pm on Wednesday and gave me a verbal quote minutes after taking the measurements on the roof, to be followed up with written quote via email later that evening. That was a very reasonable quote. Better yet, Kyle stressed the point that due to the cancellation of another job, they could work on my roof on Friday and weather forecast showed that Friday would be a very nice day. Such a quick turnaround was one of the main reasons why I decided to hire them. After they left, the sales from the other company called, but I told him not to come as I pretty much decided on hiring another company. I had a few more texting and calls with Kyle to clarify a few things on the contract and ended up signing the contract electronically Wednesday night. As promised, Sentry sent the crew out on Friday 7:30 am. Everything went quite smoothly as expected. The only exception was that when I checked the roof from inside the attic, I saw the crew replaced some but not all the rotten plywood panels. I tried reaching out to Kyle and the crew on site but was not able to get the point across right the way. With persistence, I was able to connect with Kyle on phone and learned that was occupied as he had to take his sick child to see the doctor. Later, I also managed to get the chief of the crew to get up to the attic to see the rotten pieces. Eventually, all the rotten plywood panels were replaced. The rest of the installation went smoothly and was basically finished around 6:30 pm. But the crew found their blower not working. Part of the crew went out and came back with a new blower just before 8 pm. They did a very thorough job cleaning up the larger pieces (1”+) of the debris from the yard. My wife and I told them not to worry about the smaller pieces and the shingle granules considering it was a very long day for them. But they insisted to use their new blower to clean up a bit more. I believed they were concerned about customer complaint of the cleanup. The chief of the crew was willing to spend a few more minutes to check on a few shingles at my request before they finally left at 8:15 pm. The next day, today, Saturday, May 8, 2021. Another contractor stopped by at 11 am to haul away the dumpster of old roofing material. Kyle showed up shortly after to walk through the yard with me and to collect the payment. I took the opportunity to provide positive and constructive feedback to Kyle, particularly on a backup option for customer communication and a stronger project manager presence on site. He took my feedback gracefully and asked if I would care to write a review for them. Overall, my wife and I are very happy about the new roof and the whole experience working with Sentry Construction. I will certainly consider Sentry Construction for future work and recommend them to my friends and neighbors.
