Spartan College of Aeronautics & Technology Response
07/14/2021
As the Campus President for Spartan College, I would like to thank you for your interest in our Aviation Flight program. I am sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations and I would like to offer some responses to your concerns.
Concern 1:
"I was lied to that the ground school will be all online..."
Response 1:
While the College offers the option for students to attend much of the ground or lab courses via Zoom video conference or via asynchronous delivery, there are certain portions, such as the tests and quizzes, where you must be present in person and in the classroom to ensure academic integrity.
Concern 2:
"I told them I can only come to school during flight time..."
Response 2:
Since the flight program requires in-person participation for all flights and simulator hours, students are required to be available for these lessons. The College makes every effort to provide flexibility to working students, however, in order to progress in a timely fashion, the student must be fully available for several days during the 7-day week to accommodate cancellations due to personal circumstances and/or weather & maintenance delays. For a student to be successful in our Aviation Flight program, 4 activities per week are required.
Concern 3:
"The most ridiculous thing was teaching me on a simulator for a week and I didn't even get to do a discovery flight..."
Response 3:
The Aviation Flight program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and meets the requirements established in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 14, Chapter 1, Subchapter H, Part 141. According the Training Course Outline (TCO) for private pilot, the progression is designed in a stair step fashion to ensure facility with basic maneuvers and check list usage before moving to the more complex activities. The simulator hours are an important part of this process and are a necessity for optimal learning.
Discovery flights are available to all potential incoming students who are interested in the flight program and are granted upon request. Had you inquired about a discovery flight prior to your acceptance, we would have gladly made that available to you.
Concern 4:
"Everything there is too old...they don't care to repair or update anything"
Response 4:
Spartan College is proud to offer it's flight students the Piper Archer aircraft for 100% of single engine flying lessons which represents 233 hours of the 245 hour total. The fleet of Pipers were updated in 2020 and 2021 to replace older Cessna 152s and 172s. The Piper aircraft offers the latest technology including glass cockpits, flight management system, and autopilot. There have also been ongoing facility updates with plans for continued upgrades over the next two years, which are in direct response to student, faculty and program advisory committee feedback.
Since your initial post on the BBB website, I have learned you have inquired about reentering the program. I would be happy to discuss your potential return at any time.Again, I apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me directly at (***) ******** or **********************.
On behalf of Spartan College, I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
President Pahno
