I was on I-75 just past the Fostoria exits when I hit a patch of water and hydroplaned. My car spinned out and landed in a ditch 10ft from the highway. An onlooker called 911 just incase there was something wrong. There was no damage to me or the car. The state trooper called out BG towing and I never asked him to because I had already called my own tow. The officer convinced me to call my tow off since this company was probably closer to the sight of the accident. When they arrived the employee explained that it would be $330 just to pull me out to the road and me drive it away. He stated that there was another option where I could let them pull me out and take it to their shop. At the shop the insurance company would come out and assess the car and then cover the entire cost of the tow since I had full coverage insurance. That sounded like the best option, so we sent the car with BG towing. A couple hours after the incident, I called my insurance company and they explained that they do not do that type of assessment for a tow and they could only give me a reimbursement of $100. I ended up calling my AAA and they told me they could reimburse me for the full cost of my bill. So my boyfriend, best friend and I went to get the car from their shop. The shop looked very sketchy so my boyfriend went in to take care of it for me. When he came back to the car he looked concerned and said the guy needed to talk to me. Which I understand I am the owner so they have to release the car to me and only me. The manager followed him out of the shop and was yelling at him. I got out of the car and went over to him to try to deescalate the situation. The manager started threatening to call the cops on both of us if we didn't get off his property. I tried to explain to him that I just needed to pay for my car and he needed to get it out of the locked gate so I could leave. He told me he would not give me my car and he was calling the cops. I explained that he couldn't decline to give me the car as I am the owner the car. My boyfriend went back in the car and I handled the situation from there. When we went inside the manager asked me why I didn't just come in from the first place and continued to put me down and make harsh comments like "Were you not capable of handling something yourself.?" He then stated "Just a little piece of advise. Next time, don't have your boyfriend handle something for you. Do it yourself or have a parent do it because he has a temper and he made my employees upset." I explained that I know my boyfriend and he wouldn't get mad unless given a reason to/provoked. As I looked around the room the four grown men in the shop proceeded to look at me with puppy dog sad eyes. I told the manager that if his employees don't know how to deal with customers then they shouldn't be in that field of customer service. When I went to the counter he proceeded to calculate my bill and what started out as $330 turned into $450. I asked what all the extra charges were for and before he explained them to me he explained "what an accident in the real world" was and that this is how the "real world works." I had to explain to the manager that just because I was a younger college kid I am still an adult and he could treat like one especially since I was a paying customer. I finally went out to get my car from gate and when I looked at it I noticed the front had a piece of hanging plastic that looked ripped off and the bumper was cracked. The car had no damage before it went to the shop.
Overall I was very displeased with the customer service and the lack of human decency, respect and care they gave. They had no integrity. They didn't seem to care one bit for my situation and they just wanted me to pay hundreds of dollars to them.
I will not be using their services in the future and I strongly urge anyone to not use this company because they lied in pricing before they took the car, threatened to keep the car from me, yelled, cussed, and put me down the entire experience.
