Better Business Bureau (BBB) has revoked BBB Accreditation of three businesses for violations of BBB’s Accreditation Agreement. BBB’s Executive Committee took this action on September 26, 2017, upon recommendation of its Standards and Compliance Committee.
The companies expelled were:
S.T. Evans Inc. engaged in BBB’s binding arbitration service on June 6, 2017, and a decision was made in favor of the consumer. The firm failed to honor the decision.
BBB notified Reliable Construction 1 Inc. on several occasions between May 30, 2017 and Sept. 5, 2017, regarding the company’s Peoria, Ill. BBB “F” rating and Chicago, Ill. BBB revocation of BBB Accreditation. The company did not answer BBB’s inquiry.
BBB notified Midwest Renovations, LLC on several occasions between May 8, 2017 and Sept. 5, 2017, in reference to a consumer complaint alleging inferior repairs and failure to pay a vendor. Despite these contacts, the company did not respond to BBB about the complaint.
BBB Accredited Businesses are required to respond to customer complaints and BBB inquiries, to make a good faith effort to resolve complaints and to honor arbitration decisions. Failure to do so is considered prejudicial to the best interests of BBB and private enterprise. Accredited Businesses also must maintain a BBB rating of B or higher.
Expulsion from accreditation status is unfortunate. However, BBB takes enforcement of its standards very seriously. Applicants for BBB Accreditation also must meet BBB standards. They can be denied accreditation if they fail to comply.
BBB Standards of Accreditation are designed to offer consumers confidence before they make purchasing decisions. Consumers are urged to contact BBB at 314-645-3300 or bbb.org, for a BBB Business Profile before doing business with any company or charity.
