September 17, 2015

O.J. Laughlin trucks and staffSt. Louis, Mo., Sept. 21, 2015O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Co. is among 11 businesses and two charities who will receive TORCH Awards from Better Business Bureau (BBB) Serving Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois at noon Friday, Nov. 13, at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis.

Dan Laughlin, the third generation of his family to own the 64-year-old business, credits the company’s success to its commitment to treating customers like family and offering plumbing without any shortcuts. About 90 percent of the company’s work comes from repeat customers or referrals.

“We credit our success to two simple principles that were always stressed by our founder, Oliver Laughlin,” Laughlin said. “Treat people like you want to be treated and do the work for someone else the same way you would do it for yourself.”

Businesses and charities who apply for the TORCH Awards are evaluated for their commitment to customer service through exceptional standards for ethical business practices. A committee of previous winners chooses the award winners.

Tim Barklage and Kevin Tibbs, co-founders of St. Louis-based Better Life, will be the keynote speakers. Better Life, which was featured on the ‘Shark Tank’ television show, produces a line of environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Nichole Berlie, anchor of KSDK Channel 5’s Today in St. Louis, will emcee the event.

The TORCH Awards luncheon is at noon Friday, Nov. 13, in the Khorassan Room at the Chase Park Plaza. Tickets for the luncheon are available at $60 a person, or $600 for a table of 10. Patron sponsorships, which include luncheon tickets, are available for $1,500.
