my **** faucet suddenly stopped working in my kitchen. The sensor wasnt working and even with the manual faucet, water was not coming out. In hindsight i should of replaced the batteries first before calling anyone but seeing that the water wasn't coming out when i tried the handle on its own - i thought it might be a bigger problem. The gentlemen came and first told me that it is hard to assess what is going, but we should try batteries first. i had to go get batteries and, in the meantime, he put together a quote and told me, if the batteries didnt work than it would be $525 just to assess the situation to figure out what is wrong and that the cost to fix the issue once the diagnosis was complete would be another fee. But long story short, putting in new batteries fixed the issue. He said because he assessed the situation and performed the work of putting batteries in that i would be charged for his labor and i had to pay $129. i think that is very excessive. i told him i understand paying the $69 service fee, but having to pay for him to put the batteries in feels like im being taken advantage of. He asked me if i wanted to put the batteries in or have him and he was already on the floor by the battery pack. i would have been happy to replace the batteries if i knew it would cost me. i understand seeking services for plumbing issues are never going to be cheap, but i am about fairness as well. i will not be seeking service from this company in the future and will do more due diligence on my part prior to calling for help.Review from Charlie O

I was a happy customer with ****** HVAC, which sold out to Academy Air. I had a service contract to check my air conditioning system in early summer. The inspection did not take place until August. Academy said they were short of techs, because no one from ****** took a job with them. I felt that ****** customers were being treated as 2nd class. I checked the temperature drop across my evaporator coil the day before the inspection. The drop was 18dF, which is good. The technician from Academy came out and checked the unit. He said that it needed 2 lbs of refridgerant and stop leak added. He handed me a price quote of $630.00. I refused the service. My neighbor is a HVAC tech for another company. I showed him the quote and said it was way over priced, and NEVER add stop leak to a system. He checked the unit and added 1/2 pound of refridgerant. Needless to say Academy Air will never hear from me again.Review from John S

In early March ******************************************************************** our basement needed to be upgraded. That work was scheduled and performed on Mar 10. When he went to restore the lines a leak was discovered that had not been detected before by our working carbon monoxide detector. The gas supply was left off that Friday afternoon during what turned out to be a very bitterly cold weekend with temperatures well below freezing. The earliest appointment we could obtain from anyone was on Tues. Mar 14 with Academy Air. When the Academy Air tech arrived at about 9:30am he surveyed the work and estimated that it could take 8 or more hours and cost about $12,000! When I asked why the price was so high, he said that he could apply a "new member discount" of $2,100.He then LEFT to go obtain additional unknown parts returning about 11:00am! At about 1:30pm another Academy Air tech arrived and they completed the work by about 3:00pm. Together they could not have spent more than 6 hours. The invoice listed general tasks but did not give costs of materials used nor labor hours or rates. The total price of the invoice was $ 9,091.We have had other companies give us estimates of this same work ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. One estimate did give a line item of labor for 6 to 8 hours and listed materials, estimating a total between $2,200 to $2,500.We have called Academy Air 5 times to talk to management about the amount of this bill being three times higher than other estimates with no calls returned. We feel we have no other recourse than to file complaints with the ***************** and the Better Business Bureau to alert the general public of such malicious business practices and to hope for some financial recompense from Academy Air.Review from Raymond N

I had a representative from ********** offer me a deal on an AC tune up, then it was contracted out to academy air. Finally two months later they came out and basically seemed like he was on a mission to find something that was wrong. He was very aggressive and rude to me when I asked questions. It started to seem like it was a scam to get me to replace my units, he had nothing nice to say, everything was old and wrong with my units. My units really are not that old 16 years in fact. He was ****** confident that something was going to go wrong with my units this summer. Everything works great I just wanted a tune up I thought they would clean and charge my unit but it was basically just to try and sell me new components when everything works great. The part about this is that I am trained in hvac and do not have a license to purchase refrigerant anymore because I changed careers, so I know whats right and whats wrong.Academy Air Response

*******,Thank you for bringing this to my attention. While we generally start to see higher average yearly repair costs as systems approach the age of your unit, ************** SHOULD NOT have made you feel pressured to replace your unit. Our goal is to educate our customers so that they can make informed decisions and reduce the likelihood of a no cool or no heat situation when it matters most. Replacing a transmission on a vehicle with over ******* miles might not always be the best decision in the long run. Sometimes it is. No matter what, ************** should not have been rude, aggressive, or made you feel pressured to make a decision. That is not how we strive to do business and does not live up to our five star service standard. Please reach out to my direct number, ************, so I can find out some more information and prevent this from happening in the future.Review from Doug H

This company is completely unprofessional. I scheduled an appointment two months ago. I called two days ago to confirm the appointment and arrival window. I was told there is no arrival window but a tech would call 30 minutes before arriving. The afternoon of the the appointment day I was told that my appointment would need to be changed for a month out because they had too many other appointments. When I requested to speak with a supervisor I was told that nobody was available. The representative refused to let me speak with a different representative. This company is unprofessional and the customer ********************** is poor. They only show up for the appointments that will give them the most money. Do not recommend!Academy Air Response

Thank you for your feedback and I apologize that you were rescheduled, especially on the day of your appointment. This is not the standard we strive for at Academy Air. As the temperature rises we do begin to see a large increase in customers with broken systems and no cooling in their homes. It has always been our policy to prioritize these customers in the worst conditions to get back up and running as fast as possible in order to minimize safety and comfort issues. This is the same priority we would provide to you if you were in the same situation. Unfortunately, this does mean that sometimes we must request to reschedule our customers with routine maintenance, cleaning, or otherwise functioning systems. We know that, while these customers may have functioning systems, this is still an inconvenience and we are working now to improve our process, increase our capacity, and minimize the impact to our customers' lives. Thank you again for your feedback and we will continue to strive to uphold our Five Star Service standard.
