I had a plumber come out because I had noticed some minor water damage on a garage wall. I had already opened up a nice 3'x3' area so the plumber could see the issue. I asked him what the next steps would be after his repair was finished. He mentioned he had worked with Absolute Flood Response and that he'd call them to come out and give me an estimate as they did both remediation and had a construction company to fix the drywall. The plumber called them and later that evening two guys showed up from Absolute Flood Response. I explained to the workers I needed an estimate. There was no emergency, there was no flood, matter of fact the amount of water present on the floor wouldn't have filled a thimble. So they showed me the work authorization that they needed signed to be able to give me an estimate, and the work authorization clearly stated that no work would be performed until I had received and accepted an estimate. The next day a field supervisor showed up, took a look at the job and said he'd have an estimate to me later that day. I received the estimate, and comparing it to the other estimates I received that same day, I chose to go with another company. The harassing phone calls began shortly after that. Their position is that there was an emergency for an after-hours service call and they performed demolition and clean up. I told them that I understood that any "work" they performed was so that they could provide me with an estimate, which is exactly what their work authorization says. Bottom line, understand that when you let a company like this onto your property, and they so much as sweep the floor, you just opened yourself up to an invoice of an unknown amount, which they will get paid by plain old intimidation or by the improper use of the lien system. I was forced to pay them $795 but I demanded the return of those funds since I never authorized any work, just an estimate. Based on their made up story they are refusing to refund me.

I'm sorry to hear your experience with us was less than ideal and we deeply value your feedback. It is important to us that we address and respond to your concerns in a timely and factual manner.

On November 27th, 2023 the plumber contacted our afterhours line to let us know the job he was working at needed our services. He provided us with your information and a brief description of the work that was needed. To confirm our visit, we called you and let you know that we would be at your property within 60-90 minutes, to which he agreed. Two of our technicians called thirty to forty minutes prior heading out to provide ETA. After confirming ETA our technicians arrived at 7:25pm and began scoping the area of concern with you.
Our technicians took pictures and notes of the affected area. Moisture can clearly be identified in the pictures taken prior to any work performed by our technicians.
All homeowners are shown and provided our Work Authorization Contract Agreement and Direction to Pay. Prior to beginning any work all homeowners must sign the form that is attached to a carbon copy. Mr. ******* signed it and kept the copy. A portion of the Work Authorization Contract Agreement and Direction to Pay form, request for the homeowner’s insurance company name along with the policy and claim number if they have one. The homeowner let us know he had already filed a claim and provided us with all the information.
Mr. ******* signed and selected the services he needed. Our technicians then began working. They began by opening the area that was saturated with water and located around the hole Mr. Snivley had already created. After removing the drywall, we located the leak and showed it to the homeowner who was present and observing our technicians perform the work.
Mr. ******* requested an estimate for all the work to be completed including the rebuild. Our technicians let him know that one of estimators would contact him the next day. We do not provide estimates for emergency services as stated in the Work Authorization Contract Agreement and Direction to Pay Mr. ******* signed. The next day we provided him with the quote. He let us know he would contact us once he reviewed other estimates. After not receiving a call from him we reached out to follow up and never answered our call. After several attempts to contact him, we were left with no choice but to leave a voicemail with the reason for our call. Mr. ******* called us back immediately once we let him know he was responsible for the payment of the work performed.
He immediately denied any responsibility for payment. After spending several hours on the phone explaining our charges and providing him with all the necessary information for him to understand he continued to deny payment and proceeded with threatening to take legal action.

      Customer Response

I reject this response as it does not resolve the underlying issue. I note that it is telling that you care about your customers so much, but you can't even spell my name correctly. Very telling. This response is typical of this company's unethical behavior, not only in this case, but it's the same pattern of behavior they've exhibited with every negative review across the internet. If the company was ethical, the technicians would have stated there was going to be a fee incurred to show up when they called to confirm their visit. They did not. If the company was ethical their technicians would have stated upon their arrival that a fee was to be incurred. They did not. If the company had any ethics at all, they would have indicated that charges were to be, or had been, incurred as they began scoping "the area of concern". They did not. Again, even though the company tries to make it sound like they were responding to an emergency, there was no emergency. The plumber would have been clear on that - upon their first phone contact with myself, they didn't verify if there was an emergency. Upon arriving at my home, it was clear there was no emergency. At no time did they act or indicate that there was an emergency, because there was no emergency. Just because they term to call it "emergency services" does not make it emergency services. Their entire work process is deceptive and predatory. Companies should not be allowed to operate like this. They act in this predatory manner and once they've captured you in their trap, they turn into aggressive debt collectors. They also like to invent narratives to fit their point of view, irrespective of real facts. For example "after spending hours on the phone explaining our charges" is simply a lie. I never spent more than ten minutes on the phone with the "Karen" who runs the office. She should write fiction for a living she's so good at spinning untruths. I've drafted a civil complaint that I will be filing with the local District Court stating the true facts and I will let a Judge hear my story and he can then listen to their lies and we'll see if the funds I paid under the threat and duress of a property lien should be returned to me. Again, they keep wanting to hide behind their company policy of not providing work estimates for "emergency work". Again, there was no emergency, no emergency work needed to be performed. They hid this "emergency work" under the guise of "we need to take a better look to give a proper estimate". That was obviously a lie, but this company and its representatives are quite comfortable telling lies and using bully tactics to earn revenue. It's shameful.

I can not say firmly enough, STAY AWAY! They will assure you that they will take care of everything with the insurance company, over charge and upcharge for everything! and then when the insurance company disputes the charges and doesn't pay it they stick you with the bill even after telling you that will not happen. Then after the fact send you the bill, tell you its your fault and refuse to answer any communication to try and resolve, including the managers. With no exaggeration every single employee I spoke with exalted their virtues and how they are on my side and the insurance company is evil but refuse to even talk to the insurance company adjuster or make any attempt work out any differences! DO NOT TRUST THEM!

      Mr. R**,
First, thank you for your patience in dealing with this difficult situation. Per our notes, we sent an email to the adjuster with the invoice on 2/17/21, and we did not hear back from him until 3/29/21. In this time frame we attempted to contact the adjuster 7 times, so we could get them to pay the invoice. It is our understanding that you were also trying to contact the adjuster with no luck.

We understand your frustration, and we all hope that when in these complicated times that insurance will pay these claims. We are experienced in dealing with insurance companies and can never ensure that insurance will pay for the entire invoice. I am happy that we were able to assist you in getting your home back to its pre loss condition. Furthermore we would hate for you to have a bad taste for the industry due to insurance letting you down. Please do not hesitate to call if you would like to further discuss.

      Kindly,
      Absolute Flood Response
