5th Annual Small Business Week, presented by U.S. Bank, expands to five days

April 19, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 19, 2017 – The Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado (BBBSC) and the Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center (PPSBDC) are co-hosting Small Business Week, Sunday-Thursday, April 30-May 4, at several locations in Colorado Springs.

Expanding from a 4-day to a 5-day event in 2017, the 5th Annual Pikes Peak Region Small Business Week, presented by U.S. Bank, includes a variety of workshops and an awards celebration, all of which are designed to support and provide resources for small business owners, entrepreneurs and those preparing to start a business.

Returning for its second year, the Food Truck Cook-Off is presented by HomeAdvisor and will have 12 food trucks competing for the People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice Awards. Expecting a large increase over 2016’s attendance of 260 participants, the Food Truck Cook-Off has evolved to a day of its own, and radio personality, Goose, from 92.9 Peak FM will be master of ceremonies.

“We are delighted to be able to co-host Small Business Week with the PPSBDC and our generous partners,” said Jonathan Liebert, CEO and executive director of the BBB of Southern Colorado. “We want to champion and encourage small business owners – and these workshops will be a great opportunity for them to gain resources, meet their peers and have an enjoyable week.”

Small businesses are the backbone of the United States’ economy. About 2/3 of the private sector jobs in this nation are created by small businesses, according to the Small Business Administration.

“Small businesses are the creators of community, the number one producers for job growth and innovation, and are the voices that create the culture of economic development initiatives,” said Aikta Marcoulier, executive director for Pikes Peak SBDC. “We are excited to celebrate our 5th Year Anniversary of this amazing week of events with our partner the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado.”

In celebration of the 5-year anniversary of Small Business Week for the Pikes Peak Region, the Small Business Celebration and Awards Ceremony will take place at The Antlers, A Wyndham Hotel, on Thursday, May 4, with keynote speaker Kevin Knebl and moderator Steve Kaczmarek, owner of Borealis Fat Bikes.
