Genesis/Columbia Debt Recovery has been giving me such a hard time and refusing to provide the documentation I have requested and then demanded. Greystar/ *********************** has given them this account and no one will give me the documents I have demanded. I have disputed and disputed this collection effort. They just made up charges and expect me to accept their bogus charges. Better Business Bureau states Greystar has no information on me. All bogus charges.Review from Shondra G

Very rude an disrespectful had a payment arrangement made with *********************. The first call that was made for to make payments towards a debt that was owed to a previous apt complex. That wasnt the issue but the response of the reps and management name ******* was very rude, and just overall disappointing. I will never do business with the company and even if a debt is owed it will not be paid to a company who when I made a payment of 500 couldnt give me at least a receipt to show that there was a payment made to even start my payment arrangement. Do better COLUMBIA DEBT RECOVERY LLC DBA GENESIS because you all are full of s***Review from Michael M

I was contacted by COLUMBIA DEBT. collection agency and talked to a person there! They told me that an apartment complex which my girlfriend and had looked at but not lived in said we owed them money for process of application. First of all! We never did stay at this complex, we DID pay the application fee, but due to the terrible handling of the agent at the complex our money was returned by the manager of the complex and approved. I explained this to the ********** agency agent and had emailed my bank statement of the credit that i received! Apparently! that wasn't enough, and They said that I would have to pay with interest! as of now this total is $460.00. And we were not notified until a couple of months ago, by the agency NOT the complex. The apt. complex has NEVER notified us about this issue. ALL this was explained to the collection agency but they didn't want to hear it, just wanted the money!Review from Megan S

This company isn't a scam, but they are absolute scum. They blew up my phone over a debt that was proven to be paid off over a year ago and kept giving me the run around "oh you have to talk to your previous apartment complex" and then I do, which send me back to Atlantic who says, "oh well actually the management company has to handle this with our client services department." But of course, I can't get the number for that department from the guy I'm talking to and when I find it, they route me right back to the original guy who was just talking in circles, because he gets a commission if I pay up.They're just leeches who want your money and don't care if you owe it or not. My advice, find a lawyer and let them handle these idiots for you, because that's the only way you're going to get this resolved.Review from Jeremy F

If I could give this company 0 stars I would. I was sent an email saying I owed them money for an account which was totally not true. I sent over documents proving my case. I sent MULTIPLE emails to the person I spoke with and never heard anything back. After 3 weeks with no response, I called back again. The second guy I spoke with was SUPER rude and did not know anything and all he could say was he could transfer me to the guy who never responded to my emails. I then asked to speak to a manager. The manager was worse than the workers. I never got to say anything and he continuously cut me off. I asked him multiple times if he would stop and allow me to talk without talking over me. He said he would not and then hung up on me.Review from Ta S

An old apartment complex randomly charged us months after move-out then closed our account and sold it to Genesis collections agency (Columbia Debt Recovery) in November 2023 for a $506 charge, the reason unknown to us. Out of fear of impacting my credit score for a charge I 100% do not owe, I've called them around 10 times since November. 8 out of 10 times, I've received a rude or unknowledgeable employee on the other line. I mailed ***** with tracking info because I was already wary about Genesis's business practices) and emailed in a dispute on Dec 11th. I confirmed the mail was delivered a few days later and called a few weeks later for an update on the investigation/validation check. I was told it's still under investigation, no news, waiting on the apartment complex to provide more details/a bill. A month passes, so I call again. Genesis, the debt collectors, could not even confirm the date the dispute investigation started. They could not confirm if the dispute is still ongoing. They randomly decreased the debt amount from $506 to ~$120 and tried to frame it as a "favor they did out of the goodness of their heart" then THREATENED to increase our debt amount back to $506. When we requested an updated bill showing the new, lowered amount, we were told they already sent it to both of our emails/addresses (they haven't). We asked to speak to a MANAGER and were transferred to another rude guy named ****** who claimed he could not send an email with the updated info. How can a debt amount be changed without any updated bills/ledgers showing the REASON FOR THE CHARGE?I'm not sure how this place is still running, reading the other replies here and in forums, they seem to have been doing illegal practices for quite a while. They want you to pay so they can make a percentage of the charge. Please keep ALL documents and record any conversations. They claim to record them, but will they misplace or delete them when a lawsuit comes knocking?Review from Nisiana M

Genesis Credit Management aka Columbia Debit Recovery has fraudulently and unlawfully placed someone else's owed balance of $227.52 on all 3 of my credit reporting agencies. With the same name and DOB, but different state DL and #. The email of the person that they are looking for has a fake email account and phone number. I have called The *********************** South apartments and they referred me to call Greystar property management; however, they have not reached back to me. I will be filing complaints against all three businesses because this type of this should not be happening.Review from Lauren M

Received a notice that a balance was due at a Greystar property. I was in communication with the property over the summer and never heard back regarding the final bill breakdown. Called to settle the debt and asked to see documentation of proration that wasn't provided by ******** to confirm final bill is correct. Associate disputed the account and said he would get back to me. I reached out a week later for an update and was belittled by the next agent who talked in circles. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was laughed at and told I sounded like a mother. The way this company treats people is deplorable. Misogynist, unprofessional, and condescending agents.
