    Additional business information

    Additional Info:
NEWS RELEASE FOR RELEASE: March 3, 2009 A recent rash of scam e-mails and text messages has hit close to home, Attorney General Steve Bullock said on Tuesday. Like many Montanans, Bullock recently received an e-mail telling him that unless he sent account information to the sender "access to sensitive account features will be limited." While the e-mail appeared to be coming from Montana-based Mountain West Bank, it's part of a "phishing" scam that tries to get personal information from unsuspecting consumers. The e-mail messages also directed recipients to visit a website that looked nearly identical to Mountain West's homepage. The use of mock websites, even those of local companies and lending institutions, has become common practice in these "phishing" scams. Bullock stressed that while the recent rash involves Mountain West, the con artists sending these out are continually changing who they e-mail and the companies, agencies and charities they impersonate. "In these uncertain economic times, it's more important than ever to protect personal information from those who try to steal our identities or run up bills in our names," Bullock said. "Legitimate businesses don't ask for this sensitive information over e-mail or through text messages. Folks receiving these messages should be suspicious and should contact their financial institution." These e-mail or text messaging scams, known as "phishing," try to lure personal information-like credit card numbers, bank account information, Social Security numbers, passwords or other sensitive information-from unsuspecting victims. Often these messages appear to come from legitimate companies and agencies with whom consumers regularly conduct business and contain links to websites that look remarkably like a legitimate organization's site. The messages also may threaten a consequence like closing an account or terminating service unless consumers immediately update their billing information. Bullock warned that consumers should always be cautious of any unsolicited communication requesting personal information, as those who try to steal personal, sensitive information are always adapting their tricks. * Do not reply to an e-mail or pop-up message that asks for personal information and don't click on the link in the message. Legitimate businesses don't ask for these types of information via e-mail. Contact the company directly using a telephone number or a website address you know to be legitimate. * Be suspicious of warnings that accounts will be shut down with little or no notice if you don't reconfirm your billing information. Don't be pressured into responding before you can contact the legitimate organization. * Look at the "address bar" at the top of the browser, not just the graphics and logos on the web page. Fake sites often use a different domain name from the legitimate business site they are copying. * Avoid sending personal and financial information via e-mail whenever possible. I have been a Mountain ********* Customer since ****. Although I live in ****** now I have kept my bank account with them because of good customer service....until today. I was not able to log on to my on line banker using my credentials even though I had logged on successfully 2 hours earlier. I am computer savvy and well versed in passwords, etc. I called the 800 line and spoke with ******* She scolded me for trying to log on 3 times because that apparently locked my account. I was using my correct log on user name and password. **** unlocked my account and gave me a temporary password. I was not able to get in using that password. I feel that there was a computer glitch but **** yelled at me, telling me I wasn't doing it right! She raised her voice and was so impolite and mean I hung up. NOT what I wanted or expected from this bank. She acted like I was an idiot which I am not. I was able on my own to request a new password through the bank website and got in to my account. I didn't need this stress and was shocked and appalled by the poor customer service and if it happens again I will close my account after all these years.

Run don't walk. There is something evil at work with this bank. They need to be investigated by the ************************** We have three checking accounts with Mountain West. Last night I checked my online account and it showed I had an available balance, which going off my own calculations was actually right for once. Online is NEVER correct so if you are someone who relies on that for accurate balance this cannot be relied on. This morning I checked the same account, and it was in the negative. How can that be??? The problems are as my son states EVERYDAY, "mom the online is never correct." I haven't been able to figure out exactly how they are skimming money but this being in the negative online is a reoccurring theme in an effort to charge you an overdraft fee. Today I'm trying to figure out where the hundred and twelve dollars I deposited last night went and how I came to be in the negative this morning. This is an ongoing problem. My checking account was hacked a couple of months ago and the hacker took the money out of my checking. Mountain ********* couldn't explain how. We should have closed our accounts then but being complacent and having banked there for so many years, we went through the inconvenience of opening new accounts. I am so so regretting that decision. We aren't wealthy so these missing funds and the online account NEVER being right is an added stress to our lives. I need to present this to the ************************* in the hopes they investigate the activities of Mountain *********.
