Description
I received a text offering a remote job opportunity. Is sounded too good to be true, but I played along. It started with "... you can earn between $80 and $200 daily!" All I needed was a email address and an SSN. The company they were (falsely) representing was Metric Theory. It's a marketing company that really exists. However, the URL (https://metrictheoryglw.cc) didn't belong to Metric Theory. On 4 separate occasions I requested a job description document but never received one. We continued on until I established an account at the website. Next a training account was setup by Lina. I was tired and decided to continue the following day. Early the next morning, she contacted me to begin my training. I didn't respond until late morning. We proceeded with training via a chat session where I was instructed to log on to a training account. I would have preferred a training guide or video. The basic premises is to "optimize" a product, so it has more "web exposure". In other words, submit products with 5-star reviews. In return, you receive commissions. You're assigned tasks and must submit a minimum of 40 products. It appears you acquire earnings for the training session. Once the training session is complete, the earnings are transferred to your account, and you proceed to your account. Incidentally, the system picks the products you "review" and submit. After about three hours, I challenged the practice of falsely boosting product ratings without ever actually reviewing them or seeing any documentation. I told the person at the other end that I was done and I'm out. I explained some of my objections and ended the conversation. About 10 minutes passed and I received an actual phone call from Lina. I went on to explain that trying to boost a product's rating in this manner is fraud and probably illegal. Her response: "No, you're just optimizing their presence." Changing the wording doesn't make it right. I ended the call abruptly. By the way, the phone number calling me was: 747-274-7549; I tried calling it back and it went directly to voice mail. If anyone is interested, I have attached the transcript from this scam. Be warned, it's 10 pages long.
