On April 25, 2022 the State of Minnesota Attorney General’s Office filed a Civil Complaint against several solar companies and lenders, including GoodLeap LLC f/k/a Loanpal LLC. According to the complaint: GoodLeap and other lenders have had arrangements with solar companies to finance their projects, with loan payment structures that support false and misleading rebate claims made by the solar companies. The complaint also alleges that the solar companies and the lenders failed to orally inform buyers of the right to cancel their installation contracts and loan agreements during execution. The complaint seeks to enjoin GoodLeap from operating in violation of Minnesota state law; require them to provide proper Notice of Buyer’s Right to Cancel to all prospective and current customers; and seeks restitution and civil penalties.
On December 21, 2022 The State of Minnesota entered into a Consent Order with GoodLeap LLC. Without admitting liability, GoodLeap agreed to be liable for a one time payment of $65,000, all or any of which may be distributed to the consumers as restitution by the Attorney General.
