Ronald Gierard launched Network 12 as an online gift store in 2003, succeeding Ron's Gift Shop in the Unity Club of Falls Church, VA. From his experience at the gift shop, Ron was aware of the difficulties of maintaining supplies of painted, or Tri-plate, coins for the recovery world.


Suppliers at the time were constantly out of stock and back orders for tri-plate medallions were lengthy. After contacting many recovery store owners and various mints, Ron decided to create his own paintable coins that could be shipped to the customer within 2 days.


To this day, coins that are purchased at Network 12 are shipped in the United States within 2 business days, even if they are not already painted. Because we paint our own coins, we have a wide variety of colors available to our customers, including exclusive styles. In fact, Network 12 became known as the “Home of the Original Sparkle Medallion”, which has been one of our best selling coins ever since it was originally created. 


Network 12 has always proudly sold AA and Alanon coins that are minted, plated and painted in the USA.


After his death in 2012, Ron's daughter, Susan Gearhart, has continued her father's traditions of providing quality products to the recovery communities. Since 2009, when Susan began working with Ron, over 50,000 coins have been shipped within the United States. One of Susan's first projects was the creation of a feature that allows a customer to create a customized anniversary medallion in any of Network 12's available colors and styles.
