Owner of Ashford Management Services
What is your biggest professional accomplishment?
Opening a successful woman-owned small business. Obtaining financing, negotiating with clients for a seamless transition as well as all of the tasks associated with startup was quite a challenge. The fun part was picking out all of the office furnishings.
What is the best advice you have received in the last 10 years?
Bigger isn’t always better. While considering whether or not I was going to take that step into small business ownership, I had an opportunity to purchase a rather large portfolio. It was a senior real estate manager that helped me to see that I should focus on my niche and not grow too much too fast. Great Advice!
If you could change one thing about your business, what would it be?
I would prefer that property managers had their own real estate designation. Currently, in Arizona, a property manager simply goes through the real estate salesman program. I believe there should be a program and designation for those of us focusing solely on expert property management.
What are the key factors to running a successful business?
Communication, solid well thought out effective proven policies and procedures and professional employee relations. Remain current and up to date with new innovations, technology and rules, regulations and statues. Stay involved and active with the community.
What is your favorite business tool that makes life easier?
Arizona has fallen victim to real estate agent attacks. We have employed a system for our properties / property showings whereby we utilize financials and other qualifying factors to prequalify all prospective tenants before showing. As an added benefit this system helps pre-qualify prospective tenants.
What was your first job?
I worked in my father’s record store.
What is your favorite movie or music artist?
Favorite Movie : The Princess Bride
How do you spend your free time?
Cooking, hanging with my boys and doggies and who can resist golfing in the beautiful Arizona weather!
What would you do if you won the lottery?
I would ensure my family was taken care of, install a huge garden and contribute to charities specifically Habitat for Humanity and Breast Cancer Awareness.
How would you finish this sentence, One day I hope____.
To see world peace.
