BBB has received information that consumers often assume Official Service Dog Registry is affiliated with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). However, the business denies affiliation on the bottom of the website at www.officialservicedogregistry.com.
This business offers registration services for consumers with service dogs. However, according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are not required to be registered or certified:
“Covered entities may not require documentation, such as proof that the animal has been certified, trained, or licensed as a service animal, as a condition for entry. There are individuals and organizations that sell service animal certification or registration documents online. These documents do not convey any rights under the ADA and the Department of Justice does not recognize them as proof that the dog is a service animal.”
Also according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are not required by law to wear vests and a business may only ask the owner two questions:
1.Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
2.What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
Lastly, BBB has received information the business sends consumers notification if payment is declined or cancelled, indicating all charges will be sent to collections. Upon review of the business’ Terms & Conditions, the website states:
“Pay: If you subscribe or pay for any products or services that we offer for a charge, you will pay the applicable fees as they become due plus all related taxes and reimburse us for any collection costs and interest for any overdue amounts. If we send you to collections for any reason you understand a minimum fee of 100.00 is assessed in addition to the amount owed to cover any fees ,collection cost and or attorneys fees. In the event costs exceed 100.00 you agree to pay the additional costs.”
If you have any questions regarding service animals, please feel free to contact the Americans with Disabilities Act which is a branch of the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division at www.ada.gov or call 800-514-0301.
