I do not make it a habit to post items. I was recently seriously burned by a local concrete contractor in the Sedona area and I wanted everyone to be warned. His company is Arizona State Concrete. Below is my experience. Jaysson repaired my failing cantilevers in my swimming pool as well as coating the large deck surrounding the pool. The concrete cantilevers were not installed with expansion joints where the new and existing concrete met. That means that they will continue to crack (which they have). He resurfaced the decking with Excel deck. During this work my pool, which had the pumps off for several weeks, turned a chocolate brown and formed solids on the surface. Now the plaster inside the pool is stained. I got a pool service guy to come and fix the chemicals in the pool. The interior of the pool was now permanently stained. This was September, 2019. By October the decking had begun to pop off the surface. Jaysson and his crew removed the bubbled- off decking the following spring, 2020. It was over 3/4 of my deck (over 2000 square feet). It was then that I learned from a decking professional in Phoenix that the concrete was not prepared properly and that is why the decking popped off. Jaysson insisted that there was some sort of leak beneath the decking that caused the popping off. He refused to do the repair work on the pool until we found and had the leak repaired. We had the pool drained and every pipe tested for pressure and hired the Leak Squad to check for leaks. The ONLY leak was inside an air pipe in the spa. That was repaired, the plaster was jackhammered off the surface and the pool was resurfaced. Jaysson was informed that the decking was going to be repaired by someone who does ONLY decking for a living. At that point, Jaysson was sure there was still a leak and wanted to cut up a section of my very large concrete deck. I told him no way, there was no leak. I had hoped he would pay for the new decking and told him that the cost on it would be only $4,500 (I paid Jaysson $7,800 for the decking that was incorrectly applied). I sent Jaysson the cost that the coating guy charged me and he instead stated that he would not compensate me because his work had been modified. He refuses to take my calls, and all communication must be via email. He has NEVER admitted that he did a less than professional job on our site. Instead he is distancing himself. This is very sad for a guy that stated "I will do whatever it takes to make this right." The Registrar of Contractors will not punish him, so my last and only recourse is the pressure of social media to punish him for not doing what was right.
