My kitchen renovation experience with his company was one of the worst of my life. We signed a contract April 1`7th, 2020 for the project to begin in May and end by approximately July 1, 2020. He repeatedly lied to me, saying the pandemic caused delays in the City permit process meaning he could not start moving the wall and doing the majority of the work. Later I found out that he did not even apply until August 20th, though he told me that happened in early May. We did not receive the construction permit allowing the wall to be moved until November as a result. In the meantime, I had paid for 2/3 of the renovation, and a large chunk of that money was to be used to purchase cabinets and formica. At the end of January 2021 I discovered he had not ever ordered the cabinets after telling me that had been dine almost six months before. In addition, Mike rarely ever worked the full days here that he promised or hired the additional sub contractors to perform the work necessary to finish in a timely ,manner. When he finally opened the wall, he left gaps in the walls and ceiling that resulted in my freezing for a month and a half, and mice flooded through the holes in the walls. I had to live trap and relocate 19 at last count. After nine months my walls were not completely closed, the rough portions of the electrical and plumbing work were not yet completed, and I could not order the cabinets until those tasks were completed. I was finally able to order them in early April, but there is a 9 week waiting period before their arrival, all of which could have been avoided if this contractor had abided by the terms of our contract. In order to receive even a partial refund, I had to file a small claims court lawsuit against this company.. After offering me amounts far too small to reimburse me for the payments I had made, he finally agreed to settle for roughly 1/3 of the money I had originally paid him. Fortunately, some of the materials were purchased, and he had performed some of the necessary work for the renovation. I have had to function as general contractor since firing him, coordinating contractors to finish different parts of the project. The end date for my kitchen renovation is now at least 14-15months from its inception when it should have taken 2-3 months to complete.
