******* Automotive auto repair was found through Yelp and I was able to schedule a maintenance repair appointment for my car on 12/22/2021. Couple days prior to my appointment, I noticed steam coming out under hood of my car. I called an uncle asking for advice and without seeing my car, he guessed it was due radiator tank being empty. His advice was to fill up with water (since I didnt have coolant) just temporary until I can make it to the shop. He also suggested that I start the car after filling up the overflow and let it run for a few mins. After a few mins, steam still came out from under-hood. I dropped my car off at ******* Automotive 8:00 AM on 12/22/2021 and told them the narrative. An hour later, I received a call with a list of things need to be done. Radiator Coolant Hose $13.76, Denso/Radiator $256.82 (AutoZone price ~$164), Radiator Cap $12.47, Radiator Coolant Hose $18.36, Engine Coolant / Antifreeze $31.64, A/C Condenser Fan Assembly $251.70 (Oriellys ranges from (~$72 - $134.99), Shop Supplies $25.67, Labor $368 for total of $978.42. After checking prices on different auto parts suppliers, I realized everything was double charged, so I asked for a discount, he said well see what I can do. Assuming this will fix my problems, I agreed to proceed. At around 3:30 PM, I received a call that my car was ready for a pickup. I came to pay for the invoice, he gave me $40 off and said we found an oil leak and gave you a quote on second page. I asked him how come he didnt let me know earlier, his response was he only focused on the radiator- not the oil leak issue. The quote was to replace Engine Variable Valve Timing Spool $25.45, Shop Supplies $25.67, Labor Charge $310.50. I also research about my cars problem online and website below suggested one of the six possibilities causing steam to come out from under-hood is oil leakage. https://carfromjapan.com/article/car-maintenance/car-smoking-under-hood-but-not-overheating/My thoughts are if my radiator overflow was empty causing the steam, it would take more than two gallons to fill up but it only took one gallon in my case. Also I relocated from ********** to Oregon about three weeks ago and spent couple weeks at a campground in ********, in my second week is when I discovered oil spill on the ground where my car parked. Then the real cause for steam to generate from my under-hood was oil leakage - not radiator. Also, this morning I called a few different repair shops to get a second opinion on my cars problem and one repair shop suggested that Oil Filter Gasket (on ******* Automotive quote) can be replaced through oil change process, so I went to have an oil change. However, an expert at Juffy lube uncovered the cause of oil leak from my car was from Filter Pan - not Filter Gasket.In essence, I paid for a repair service and hoping for a peace of mind but my problem was only partially fixed. Since I am not professional in auto repair, I am seeking for help to obtain the truth and real causes to my cars problems.
