Better Business Bureau® (BBB) of Central Oklahoma, in partnership with the Absolute Data Shredding, a BBB Accredited Business, will hold its annual “Secure Your ID Day” on Saturday, April 22 at BBB offices in Oklahoma City’s historic Film Row District. Oklahoma residents and small businesses are encouraged to attend the event and take a key step in identity theft protection by shredding their sensitive paper documents. BBB staff will also be on-site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.
Identity theft is a serious problem: in 2016, consumers nationwide reported around 400,000 identity theft complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). According to the FTC, it’s frequently perpetrated through methods like purse snatching, dumpster diving, phishing emails, and spyware.
“Annually, BBB hosts Secure Your ID Day events across the United States, which provide free, reliable on-site document shredding and identity theft awareness services”, said Kitt Letcher, president and CEO of BBB of Central Oklahoma, “shredding sensitive documentation is an important part of protecting yourself from identity theft.”
