Better Business Bureau® serving Central Oklahoma has launched a Tax Resource Center microsite that aims to provide a guide for consumers embarking on preparing their own taxes or finding a trusted business to do so.

The microsite is accessible via a link on your BBB’s homepage or by visiting bbb.org/oklahomacity/tax.  It contains valuable information on tax-related scams, such as the ever-present IRS phone scam that came in on top, for the second year running, of BBB’s Top Scams of 2016 according to BBB’s Scam Tracker tool.

BBB’s Tax Resource Center:

  • Enables consumers to quickly find a tax preparer to lift the burden of those sometimes-tricky tax forms
  • Offers a quick way to find a tax resolution service to help solve any of those tax problems a consumer may run into after submitting their returns.
  • Provides important links consumers and business owners will need to understand what tax credits and deductions they should be aware of when filing their taxes
  • Leads consumers directly to the source with an IRS Tax Resource section that has helpful links to Affordable Care Act information, filing your own taxes, making payments, the IRS FAQs board, and the proper contact information to the IRS

BBB’s Tax Resource also offers a wide array of resources and information to keep consumers informed about tax scams and tax ID theft. In 2015, tax identity theft made up 45 percent of all identity theft complaints, according to the FTC’s Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book. BBB has the tips you need to make sure you keep your identity safe when dealing with your taxes.

The Tax Resource Center is another valuable section of the BBB website that provides information to help consumers be aware, be vigilant, and be safe.
