Brought my late granddad's seiko kinetic watch in for a new capacitor, apparently after 40+ years of service it was ready for a new one. I know this is no omega or Rolex but it holds immense sentimental value to me as he handed it down to me only weeks before his passing. They had to send it off as they don't do actual repairs in the mall. Waited weeks, not hearing anything. I began to get concerned. They finally call me and say it is back, I pick it up, all is well in the world. Until a week later and I was washing dishes, the one time I forgot to remove the watch and got 1/4 of the case briefly wet, immediately removed it and dried it off, only to notice the bezel was not seated flush. Lo and behold, condensation in my watch. I took it back to them as they have a 'return if repairs aren't satisfactory' policy. They apologized and said they would have to send it off again, I said fine and figured it was a fluke. Got it back, briefly got it wet again, this time with the garden hose while working outside. Condensation again. Took it back, told them I had them work on it and it was taking in water, and was treated with contempt by both the front desk guy and another employee 'the 5 bar rating is a suggestion, I have a dive watch and it still gets water in it' 1. Don't care about your dive watch. I'm not diving with this, don't even shower with it. Sounds like you should get a better dive watch. I actually dive and my computer would malfunction if it got water in it. 2. If it's the manufacturers fault, than why in 40+ YEARS, HAS IT NOT HAD AN ISSUE WITH CONDENSATION?? They begrudgingly say 'we'll take it for 24hr dry off' after I argue with them about it. And just yesterday, got it the slightest bit wet again while working in the back yard. Condensation again! Since they've proven they are incompetent, I will be sending the watch to seiko, as I should have done in the first place. Take your timepieces somewhere else.
