You may be contacted through a telephone solicitation or advertisement offering 'guaranteed' sources of scholarship money or financial aid. Consumers should be aware that these companies usually do not provide the actual funds, but instead sell a list of possible scholarship sources. Often these offers are accompanied by promises of money back guarantees, however, a close look at the guarantee may require proof of denial from the entire list of funding sources. The Bureau urges consumers to make sure they read and understand the services the company is providing as well as the company's guarantee of refunds. The information the company is providing can be easily obtained from school guidance counselors or your local library.
