    We purchased a puppy on 09/22/2023 from Puppy Avenue, Jacksonville. The puppy tragically passed away on Sunday 10/1 at the Emergency Vet. Our vet and the ER vet do not believe this puppy was 8 weeks old, she was very sick when she came to us and we were not told until she got sicker under our care. I reached out to the pet store on Friday and Saturday and spoke to the manager ******* to advise of the situation. She asked me what I wanted out of this situation and I told her point blank, I want our dog to live! She told me to bring the vet bills and we would be reimbursed. My husband, ******* ***** called ******* on Sunday 10/1 and notified them of her passing and the ER visit. She again asked him to come in Monday with our receipts and they would refund the cost of the dog and her vet bills. He went in yesterday, 10/2 – they did refund the cost of the dog, but said we would have to go through the breeder to get our $4k plus vet bill. We told her that was between her and the breeder and that she would need to resolve it by yesterday. They are now refusing to take our calls. We have done some of our own research and everything on our puppies documents appear to be falsified. Attempts on my own to reach the breeder have not been successful. The breeders address comes up as a plot of land in Missouri, but the pet store told us she is in upstate NY. At bare minimum, they owe us for the vet bills and I if I have to retain an attorney, I would want reimbursed for that as well. I don’t know what we can do to hold them accountable for the treatment of Remi. Remi had no chance at fair life and she had rights too! Remi was a female mini dachshund and in the short time we had her, we loved her beyond measure and hope she knew she was loved. This stores owner should be held accountable for the poor treatment of the animal, lying to us, and potentially the pain and suffering the animal and our family has felt through this horrible ordeal.
