Complaints Claim Online Retailer Doesn’t Deliver Ordered Items

Better Business Bureau Serving Metropolitan New York is issuing an alert to shoppers concerning Classy Ella, an online retailer reportedly located in Westchester County.  This alert is the result of an investigation arising from a number of complaints and inquiries against the business received by BBB Metro NY.

Between July and November 2017, BBB received 80 complaints and a number of submissions to BBB Scam TrackerSM regarding Classy Ella. Classy Ella has failed to answer most of those complaints. The majority of the complaints and Scam Tracker filings allege that items ordered online from Classy Ella were never delivered.

“Unfortunately, online shopping scams do happen and can be hard to spot,” said Claire Rosenzweig, President and CEO of BBB Serving Metropolitan New York. “They can pop up overnight and offer popular items at prices that look far lower than usual.  Keep in mind that uncommonly low prices can be a warning sign that indicates a scam.”

A number of consumers claim they clicked on a Facebook ad for Classy Ella offering free items if they paid for shipping and handling. Losses reported by these consumers ranged from $5 to $15.

Complainants say they were unable to reach the business by phone, and email is the only avenue of contact. Many consumers allege that the business is not responsive to their email inquiries about the status of orders or requests for refunds. Others claim they are told by Classy Ella that their orders are currently in shipment from China, so refunds cannot be processed.

BBB found no registration for Classy Ella with the New York Department of State's Division of Corporations, and BBB could not identify any principal for the business.

BBB sent notifications on September 8 and September 22 by email and by United States Postal Service to Classy Ella concerning the pattern of complaints but has received no response.

Classy Ella operates a website at https://www.classyella.com. The domain was privately registered in April 27, 2017. BBB could not locate a telephone number for Classy Ella.

The Terms of Service on the Classy Ella website provide an address at the bottom of the page: 1 Radisson Plaza, Suite 800, New Rochelle, NY 10801. BBB found that this address is associated with a company which provides mail forwarding services.
