I recently suffered a miscarriage and was seen by Dr **** of Women's specialist of New Mexico in the ************ ** on Sept 5, 2023. After visit in ER i was asked to report to her office on Sept 7,2023 at the ********* location for follow up. At time of visit I was informed I could not make another follow up appt as requested from Dr**** due to an outstanding balance from back in 2001. I was denied follow up services due to this issue and risk of other medical issue. The balance is coming 20 years later & at the time I was 18 yrs old and had my son 2 years prior. I also was covered under Medicaid with the state of NM. I spoke to the financial/ billing dept (sorry I didn't get her name) and was told that it does not matter how long it has been since I was last seen they could still collect. I asked why I was not informed of this early or even was told I had a balance. I went on to explain that at the time I was covered with Medicaid and should not have a bill due to being covered at 100%. She did say it may have been a service that was not covered by my insurance, I did go on to say I was never informed but even so my insurance covered everything @ 100% due me being a child.
