    I am, or was, a longtime patient of Sundance Dental Care of Bloomfield. I recently received a **** for $250 from the practice for services that should have been covered by my insurance. When I called the practice to inquire about the problem, I spoke to a woman named ******* who told me that when the claim was filed with my insurer, Delta Dental of Virginia, it was denied because I was ineligible for coverage. I told her I was sure I had been covered during the two dates of the claims in question, but she insisted I would need to speak to my insurer to resolve the issue. I called Delta Dental and spoke to a customer service representative. She confirmed for me that I was covered on the dates in question and told me the reason the claim had been denied was because Sundance Dental had filed an incomplete/erroneous claim. She said Sundance had been informed of its error but had not filed new paperwork, even though several months had gone by and that someone had even called the practice to explain why the claims had been denied. I called Sundance back and again spoke to *******, who insisted that the paperwork had been filed correctly and that the reason the claim hadn't been paid was because I was ineligible. She declined to take any more action on my behalf with Delta Dental and told me I would need to contact the company myself if I wanted the problem resolved. When I asked to speak to her superior, she informed she was the office manager, and there was no one else I could speak to. I called back Delta Dental and spoke to another customer service representative. She again confirmed for me that I was covered and that the claim had been filed incorrectly by Sundance. She kept me on the line and called ******* at Sundance Dental to discuss the problem as I listened. Within a few minutes, it became clear that Sundance Dental had, in fact, filed the claim incorrectly, and that is why the claim had been denied. Sundance had not supplied the tax ID number for either dentist who treated me, and at least one of the claims had even been filed under the wrong number. ******* said she would refile the two claims with the revised and necessary information. I thanked the customer service representative for Delta ********************** and hung up. Then I called Sundance Dental, and ******* answered the phone. I identified myself again and told her I wished to cancel my next appointment in March. When she asked if I wished to reschedule, I told her no and said I would be taking my business elsewhere because of her lack of interest in helping me resolve a problem her staff had created. She thanked me for calling, but she offered no apology or explanation for her lack of interest in doing her job. I find it ironic that I received A-plus service from an insurance industry representative ***** miles away, but the office manager of a business here in Bloomfield could not have been less interested in helping me. I strongly urge all other Sundance Dental Care of Bloomfield patients to peruse their bills carefully, but I warn you that you will need to be your own advocate when it comes to contesting anything you believe is wrong. Don't expect any help from the office staff.
