Programs

United Way of Northeast Mississippi (UWNEMS) supports health and human services agencies in the seven-county region of Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tishomingo, and Union counties.  The organization invests in programs that keep people housed, reduce hunger, and help people secure tax credits and public benefits.  During times of crises, UWNEMS supports agencies that help families, including those affected by natural disasters, job loss, accident, or disability.  The programs supported for children work to positively affect the rest of their lives, including support and education for parents and families, as well as educational outcomes through school-based programs, character building programs, and tutoring.  UWNEMS also supports programs that provide healthcare and medications, educate clients about healthy living, and provide assistance to patients undergoing expensive medical treatments.  According to the organization, in 2014, UWNEMS donors provided assistance for 141,079 individuals via partner agencies.

UWNEMS provides direct services to the community by partnering with a local bank and other community partners to provide free tax preparation for eligible residents in its counties.  The familyWIZE Prescription Drug Card program assists families and individuals in receiving discounted pricing on prescription drugs, allowing everyone to care for the needs of their families and not make the decision between buying medication and paying for other necessities, such as food or utilities.  Through its Back to School Resource Fair, hosted in each county served, UWNEMS provides free backpacks and school supplies to children.  According to the organization, in 2014, UWNEMS provided backpacks and supplies for over 4,000 children.
