Purpose

[To invest] in the hearts and minds of our children and their families to promote health and self-sufficiency, and faithfully extending the hand of hope and opportunity to empower the needy, uplift our target neighborhoods and the larger community, and brighten the future for us all.

Programs

Operation Shoestring provides year-round academic, social, and emotional support to elementary, middle, and high school children in central Jackson. The Project Rise after-school and summer programs are available to students to help them rise to their own best potential. Teachers, volunteers, and community partners offer academic, social, and emotional support to help the students find their path to educational success and personal development. Leadership and programming support is provided by Operation Shoestring to the JPS Academies of Jackson to help high school students obtain college- and career-readiness training. According to the organization, in 2015, Operation Shoestring provided after-school programs to 209 children and summer camps to 179 children. 

Operation Shoestring also works to provide support and resources to families in Jackson. The organization develops individualized plans of action to help meet the varied needs of the families. Partnerships with community stakeholders allows the organization to provide services including financial counseling, educational forums, workshops, and social services.
