On September 7, Equifax, one of the three main credit reporting agencies, reported it was the victim of a massive data breach. Potentially, 143 million consumers may be at risk of identity theft due to sensitive information which was obtained, such as Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and even Drivers License numbers, in some cases.
Equifax has released a video people can watch to learn more about this situation: https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/. They've also provided a link where consumers can see if their data was included in this breach: https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/potential-impact/.
As a result of this data breach, Equifax is offering free identity theft protection and credit file monitoring to all U.S. consumers.
