            Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct:
            Minnesota Dept. of Labor & Industry Consent Order

            On November 17, 2023,  the business entered into a Consent Order with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI). The Consent Order settles allegations that the business violated Minn. Stat. 326B.082, subd. 11 (b)(1)(9), 326B.84 (4)(15) and 326B.805, subd. 5(c)(2022) . Under terms of the Consent Order, the business agreed to revocation of the residential building contractor's license for the business and the qualifying building registration for Kenneth Burkhardt and to cease and desist from  acting or claiming to be a residential building contractor, remodeler or residential roofer in Minnesota. The business also agreed to cooperate with customers efforts to make claims to the Builders Recovery Fund. The business was agreed to a $30,000.00 penalty, which was stayed on the condition that the business fully complies with the terms of the Consent Order and the laws, rules and orders under DLI authority.  The Consent Order was for settlement purposes only and should not be considered as an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law.             My wife and I signed a contract with Homestead Remodeling and Consulting LLC on July 26, 2023 to remodel a bathroom. We made two of three payments to Homestead. Work did not start until November 1. All work stopped on November 2. We met with the project manager on November 6 to discuss a problem with shower pan. Homestead had incorrectly measured for the manufacturing of the special order shower pan. We came up with a back-up plan what would allow us to use the existing shower pan. On November 8 I sent a text to the project manager expressing my concern that we have not received any project updates from Homestead. The project manager informed me that he was let go by Homestead and that I should contact the owner and co-owner for further information. I made several calls to the owners plus an email the Homestead. None of the calls or emails were answered.On November 14 my wife and I made an unannounced visit to Homestead Remodeling. We met with both owners. They informed us that they were terminating the business. They were unable to provide us with information about the balance of the down payment. We were told that they did not have that information and that their attorney had advised that they not provide such information. We were assured that we would receive a call from one of the owners on November 17 with additional information. We never received a call.

            These people are very professional con artists. Buyer beware! We paid 53K upfront in Jan 2023. Told our project would be completed around June 2023. Stalling, excuses, and flip flam for 10 months. Once we held their feet to the fire they finally got a permit for building the solarium contracted. Part of the deal was that my husband would do demolition work. They waited until my husband completed $25k worth of hard labor demo, destroying our backyard, and then told us they went out of business. Malicious deception. Beware that they will change names, replace employees, and provide all manner of excuses. The kingpin of this despicable operation is A***** M*******.
