      I purchased a 2021 Subaru Forester, used car with ***** miles on it on 9/14/21 in Bloomington. I also purchased added security and service contract with ***************** My security lights were coming on and off intermittently and I got a message my services were down. I chose to take it to ****** Subaru in ****************** to have it checked which is closer to my home. On 2/14/22 when I brought it in to ******, it turned into hours of trying to figure out what was causing the issues. They ran a diagnostic on the vehicle also for $112.12. After contacting tech services at Subaru, it was discovered a "Zubie" GPS tracking device was still installed under dash causing data transfer issue. ******* my service manager at ****** helped me call to explain the problem to my salesman, ************************* at Luther Subaru. We felt since it was sold to me with a tracking device still on and it was interrupting my service, they should reimburse me the fee of $112.12. **** said I should have brought it to Bloomington Subaru for service then maybe they could have done something about it. He stated he would talk to his manager. He never got back to me after we spoke on 2/14/22. I sent him the email with a picture of device and service receipt as he requested. I resent it again on 3/2/22 as a reminder. Called him 3/9/22, left message. Called again 3/10/22 and did talk to him and he gave me the same answer. I should have come to them for my service. And he told me, "It is a used car you know". He said that his general manager said the same thing he told me. I found that to be very poor customer service to sell a car with a tracker on it and to not reimburse me for something that was their fault. I would appreciate help to recover the $112.12 I spent, not to mention waiting all day in the service center. I know it isn't a lot of money. I am on social security and on a limited budget. It didn't say that I only had to do my service in Bloomington either when I bought the car. Thank you

      I took my used vehicle to them to sell after getting an online valuation from their website for about $5500. When I got there, the person I dealt with said he needed to have his “manager” look at the vehicle to make an offer. He came back and said, “$3500” for a vehicle with a trade in value of about $6000 and a private party value of between $7000 and $9000. I asked why the huge difference and was told because I didn’t have records to prove 30k and 60k maintenance and because of that people wouldn’t want the car and that they would be diminished in what they could ask. I told him I had taken good care of it, had the oil changed regularly and hadn’t had any problems. The tires and brake pads are new. He, again, said it was a “big risk” for them and that they would have to invest money to perform expensive servicing to bring it up to standard. Today, I see my former car listed for $13k as-is as they extoll the virtues which just 7 days ago they said was a low value vehicle. I have only purchased 3 cars in my life and only sold 1. I wasn’t asking for a fortune, just to honor the original offer and was convinced by someone who said they were being “totally honest” with me that I couldn’t get more. If they are willing to shamelessly lie and take advantage like this, you would be much better served going elsewhere. Being a shady, dishonest business is a used car salesperson cliche and they live up to it perfectly! Of note, I posted a version of this to Reddit and within 15 minutes, I had SEVEN replies from people saying they had had a similar experience with this company. Absolutely shameless profiteering.

      I see a reply with an offer to help with the number you suggest I call asterisked out. This suggests to me that this is not a sincere offer to right this wrong but to appear as though you have. You have found the correct encounter and you have my number. If you really want to help, call me.

      PROBLEM RESOLVED: I am the original poster. I was invited to meet with the general manager of the Bloomington location who expressed interest in understanding the situation and helping if possible. I had very low expectations about what could come of this meeting given similar experiences with large companies wherein lip service and corporate platitudes were offered but no real amends were extended. I was, therefore, pleasantly surprised when, after admitting that the person I dealt with during the negotiation of price had unintentionally misrepresented elements of the valuation of my vehicle, I was offered a compromise. Importantly, the ** went well above-and-beyond by having both photos and a report of the condition of my (now their) vehicle at the ready to discuss. He took over two hours out of his busy day - he manages 170 employees - to make sure every question and concern I had was not just heard but addressed. In the end, I think the situation arose out of a new employee's eagerness to provide answers and my inexperience selling a used car. For me, the take-home message is this - if my experience with Luther (Bloomington Acura Subaru) is any indication of what one can expect when dealing with them in the future, you should feel reassured that within the boundaries of the practices of car sales this company will do its best to work with you. Thank you to the ** for his sincere concern and meaningful resolution.
