LOS ANGELES—Consumers want options, especially when they feel they’ve been wronged. Sometimes they file a complaint with the BBB and the parties cannot agree to a solution, and that’s why BBB is teaming up with FairClaims to offer a new, easy option for dispute resolution.
BBB today announced it will begin referring unresolved complaints against non-accredited businesses in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley to FairClaims for resolution.
FairClaims is an online dispute resolution platform that uses court enforceable, binding arbitration to resolve small disputes via 15-30 minute online webcam hearings. The cost is between $79 and $159/party depending on the size of the business and the complaint.
“FairClaims stands for convenience because the consumer doesn’t have to leave home or the office to participate in dispute resolution,” says Stephen Kane, FairClaims founder. “We hope to relieve the irritation when a consumer feels he or she has run out of options.”
“BBB works continually to increase marketplace trust and making dispute resolution easier for consumers and businesses is an important step,” says Steve McFarland, President & CEO of Better Business Bureau of Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. “FairClaims is a win-win option for everyone.”
McFarland adds, “To be eligible for FairClaims resolution, consumers must first file a complaint with the BBB. If a resolution is not reached BBB will refer the matter to FairClaims. Both the business and the consumer must agree to the option of using FairClaims services.”
For more than 100 years, Better Business Bureau has been helping people find businesses, brands and charities they can trust. In 2015, people turned to BBB more than 172 million times for BBB Business Reviews on more than 5.3 million businesses and Charity Reports on 11,000 charities, all available for free at bbb.org.
