My name is *************************** and I write you today to share a concerning issue. Let me provide some background information. In 2001, my family and I purchased our home from KB Homes. As with any new home, we were excited to move in and make it our own. However, little did we know that the placement of the hot water heater on the second floor would cause us significant trouble in the future. As we all know, ***** experienced a severe freeze in February of year 2021, causing damage to many homes. Unfortunately, our home was not spared and we had to file multiple claims through our homeowners insurance.While we are grateful for the coverage provided by our insurance, the claims have resulted in a significant increase in our yearly premium. To put things into perspective, we went from paying around $1300 a year to a staggering $6541 per year. This is a 400% increase and has put a huge financial strain on my family, particularly as I am on a fixed income. In addition, our mortgage has also increased to over $654 per month, adding to our financial burden. As a result, the possibility of losing our home has become a very real concern.I strongly believe that the placement of the hot water heater on the second floor was a flawed design by KB Homes. It left our home vulnerable to further damage and resulted in multiple claims, which ultimately led to the drastic increase in our premium. As a responsible homeowner, I have reached out to insurance companies that specialize in high-risk clients, but unfortunately, I have not been able to find one that is willing to take me on as a client.I have been living in my home for 23 years and it is disheartening to see the financial strain that this situation has caused. I am sure that I am not the only one facing this issue and I urge for something to be done to prevent others from experiencing such a drastic increase in their coverage. As a community, we should not have to bear the burden of the flawed design of our homes.
