The Barry Goggin Scholarship

Better Business Bureau of Northeast California is proud to award scholarships to academic and vocational students annually in memoriam of former President & CEO, Barry Goggin.

About the scholarship

The Barry Goggin Scholarship helps students pursue their goals of higher education. Initially funded by donations from the Better Business Bureau of Northeast California, these scholarships are now supported by other community supporters. These annual scholarships include four $2,500 scholarships awarded to both Academic and Vocational students.

Scholarships are paid directly to the educational institution.

  • 3.0 GPA or better
  • High school seniors* and continuing undergraduates. Must be a full-time student for the Fall 2025 semester. 
  • Submission of an appropriate, eligible essay or video essay.
  • Must reside in the BBB Northeast California 24 county territory**

  • 3.0 GPA or better
  • Must be a full-time Graduate student for the Fall 2025 semester.
  • Submission of an appropriate, eligible essay or video essay.
  • Must reside in the BBB Northeast California 24 county territory*

  • 3.0 GPA or better
  • High school seniors* and continuing students of certified vocational school must be considered full-time students by the vocational institution.
  • Submission of an appropriate, eligible essay or video essay.
  • Must reside in the BBB Northeast California 24 county territory**

*Eligible high school seniors still applying to schools can enter "TBD" on the appropriate line. If selected, they must provide their chosen school's information, as all scholarships are paid directly to institutions.

  • High school transcripts/College Transcripts

  • Describe extracurricular activities and community involvement.

  • A 500-word essay or video describing an ethically difficult situation you encountered and how you worked through and resolved the issue.

  • Letter of recommendation (must be from someone not related to the candidate)

*Counties include Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, Yolo, Yuba, Siskiyou.
