HighCraft Builders

2025 BBB Torch Award for Ethics Business Winner

BBB Serving Northern Colorado & Wyoming

HighCraft Builders is a high-end custom home builder and remodeler located in Fort Collins, Colorado. HighCraft Builders strives to provide a superior customer experience by providing a proven process to each client consisting of thorough upfront planning, fixed price contracts, and guaranteed completion dates. HighCraft operates using their three core values of Serving Heart, Team Player, and Self-Starter.

Character

HighCraft Builder's owner and co-founder Dwight Sailer makes it a point not to ask his employees to live out any core value that he himself does not demonstrate daily. Integrity, quality, and client satisfaction have been the foundation of HighCraft for over 26 years. When hiring, HighCraft makes sure all employees have a similar commitment to integrity by discussing how ethical choices impact the company during onboarding. Performance reviews at HighCraft include categories based on ethical behavior and the company's core values.

Culture

During the hiring process, HighCraft Builders asks each applicant to give examples of how the three core values of Serving Heart, Team Player, and Self-Start are currently in practice in their life. HighCraft is not looking to hire people willing to adopt their values, rather, they are looking for people who already align with those values. Employees are often routinely asked for feedback, such as when the leadership team asked employees whether the company's donations to nonprofits were meaningful to them. Several military veterans in the company asked to support more veterans' organizations, so HighCraft now donates to Health4Heroes and Healing Warriors.

Customers

One of the motivations for HighCraft Builders to create their robust planning and design process was the experience of having potential clients bring plans for their dream home that they may have paid tens of thousands of dollars for, but they would never be able to afford to build. HighCraft's planning and design process puts the client's budget front and center so that what is designed can be built. And in cases where the market shifts, HighCraft sticks to its fixed-price contracts, such as when the cost of construction materials went up significantly after the COVID-19 pandemic. While many other contractors passed those increases on to clients through a cost-plus contract, HighCraft honored their fixed price.

Community

Dwight is active in Remodelers Advantage, a local peer group of remodeling companies that meets virtually once a month and in-person annually to share best practices, discuss challenges and solutions, and provide objective critique and feedback. HighCraft Builders is also active with local high schools and colleges, participating in career fairs, class projects, and case studies. HighCraft also donates financially and in-kind to a wide range of nonprofits, provides paid time off for employees to volunteer, and will donate up to $250 per year to a nonprofit of an employee's choice if it falls outside of HighCraft's primary focus of giving.
